You are going with a specific position group to try to prove a very fallible point. D-Linemen are not the only thing Auburn recruits out of Georgia.
Auburn has always had lots of players on their roster from the state of Georgia. If you think that UGA can completely lockdown the state of Georgia from Auburn you have gone full retard!!!
Since a school can only have 85 scholarship players, its literally impossible to keep other schools from signing players from our state. We cant offer and sign 250 players, but that doesnt mean we cant lock down the players we have chosen to recruit hard.
It just so happens that DL is the specific position group in which UGA and AU are recruiting head to head, but we did just win out with a LB recruit over yall just yesterday. If UGA succeeds and AU fails to sign any of those specific players, you can say we "locked it down". AU signing others wouldnt change that.

Outside of the walk-on, I still don't see that great a difference between the two units.
We had that walk-on CB, our safeties were low rated 3 stars, and our other CB was awful in 2013.

I still maintain that with all injuries/recovery our secondary was in almost as bad shape as yours, and I don't think having Pruitt here would have mattered one iota. Just like having Pruitt against UF did not help you one bit.
What about the differences in the schedule? UGA playing two top 40 passing offenses versus Alabama playing five top 40 offenses definitely played a role.
ETA: Seven of the twelve FBS teams UGA played last year were ranked over #75 in passing offense compared to five of the thirteen teams Alabama played.

I would admit that is relevant.

But I disagree with this.

The more i look at it, in terms of passing teams, UGA got off easy last year with facing just three top 50 teams in passing offense, and the majority of the schedule being above 75. It almost seems like fool's gold. Any team could have had great secondary stats playing that competition.
I have to wonder if the schedules were flipped if the secondary results would have also changed.

We played 5 common opponents, Mizzou, UF, Arky, UT, and Auburn
Passing yards
UGA
UF- 27 Yards
Arky - 296
UT - 284
Auburn - 142
Mizzou - 97
Bama
UF - 93
Arky - 246
UT - 202
Auburn - 456
Mizzou - 272
Seems even against the same competition, UGA did better...

Never start another thread. Ever.

Huh?we dismissed 3/4 of our secondary before the season
including 2 potential all sec players...we were patchwork at best and with no where near the depth you guys had at DB.

Bama always has 5 star talent all over the field.
This is a lazy answer. Yes, Alabama recruits very well. But there are key misses in recruiting from 2011-2013 that hit the secondary hard. Guys that didn't pan out and others that didn't develop as expected. That's why the secondary, while loaded with five stars now, is very young.

Arden Key says "why?"
also didn't 15 of Georgia's top 25 on 247 go out of state?

It sucks for UGA fans he will be at Miami or UNC or somewhere as HC next year

Glad he's making those connections. Going to come in handy when he is bama's DC next year

Interesting, if it were true.

quote:Yeah - Auburn even put together a poster with "Georgia on your mind" and a photo of all of the GA players in AU uniforms.
42 of the 98 players on Auburn's roster for 2015 are from Georgia. GTFO of here with this 'lockdown' bullshite!!!

Didn't 14 of Lousiana's go out of state?
Nobody is dumb enough to believe that all prospects are going to go to that state's school. LSU benefits from having no real instate competition, just like UGA (if you don't count GT). But don't really have to deal with the constant onslaught of UF, FSU, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee etc coming in. I mean they do, but not in the fashion we do. The occasional Oregon and Southern Cal guy as well.
There is too much talent in Georgia for UGA to get them all.

Isn't Pruitt the same inbred that was on MTV Two A Days?

He didn't know what asparagus was.
Was a long time high school coach. DC at Hoover High. Saban hired him as an analyst in 2007 or so. Worked his way up to DB coach by 2011.

How good of a coach is he? Saban is pretty zoned in on the DBs. He seemed to have have risen pretty fast though IMO. FSU was #2 defense the year before he took over and they were #3 the year he was there. He did improve UGA's D last year but there were some head scratcher type of games by the UGA D.
