If Kelly is the starter, how much better can he be than Bo Wallace?

What were your expectations of Bo Wallace as opposed to how he turned out for us? Better or worse?

What are your expectations of Kelly if he wins the starting position based on his similar performance at EMCC?

I'm cautiously optimistic. Ask me again after the opener.

Tbh, if he's a slight upgrade to Bro I'll be pleased.

His deep ball is better. Bro was a gamer and obv. was feast or famine last year, so we can hope Kelly is more consistent.

The thing with Bo is you could tell what kind of game he was gonna have from the get go. He never seemed to snap out of a shitty game.

I'm hoping that Kelly's deep ball allows us to spread things out more and utilize all of our WR strength. Also hoping that you can see more action out of the WR screen pass and turn it into a double move and such.

In all honesty I'll feel worse about our chances in the West if he doesn't win the starting job. I know Buchanan can be good but I just don't have very much faith in him to run the offense like Freeze wants to.

I think he has more tools than Bo but Bo could also catch fire in big games. Does CK have that same killer instinct late in games? You can't predict that.

Exactly.

I think tool wise he is in better shape. But impossible to tell if he has the "it" factor.

I think we will be in great shape if he's on the same level as Bo. Not many people give Bo credit because of all his ints, but he was a game changer. He was tough as nails and he won some big time games for us. He took a lot of punishment from defenders because of our terrible O line and still found a way to break a lot of Eli's records.

I don't understand the dislike for Buchanan. He hasn't played in any meaningful action outside of a cold raining day at Arkansas and people are writing him off. He's a RS sophomore. He doesn't have the strongest arm ever but the kid is talented. He would have made the elite 11 along with Kincade had it not been for a mission trip according to Dilfer.

I want the best guy in the game. If being a more conservative qb is what we need to win, why would we want a risk taker making bad decisions putting the defense in tough spots. I think even the conservative talk is taken out of context. Its as if all people expect from Buchanan is check down throws. I just don't get the hate..

I think it has everything to do with the lack of zip on his throws. I saw the kid working out a bunch in HS and from the spring game & recent film it seems like his throws now lack power and the ball flutters consistently.

I personally want whoever puts the team in the best position to win. With the depth we have at reciever I hope whoever the staff ends up anointing they can actually spread the field effectively and get them all involved (something we did not have the past 3 years).

Counterpoint: When there's no receiver open or not enough time to develop a play, you gotta prefer Kelly on his feet.

I don't think there is dislike for Buchanan. I just don't think there is a lot of excitement. The impression the media is giving is that if RB wins the job it's because he's the safe option. Kelly is athletic enough to be a very exciting player if the instincts are there. They're basically being billed as potential role player vs potential game changer. Is that accurate? I don't know, but that's the perception I get from the media.

I dont think there is any hate...actually, Ryan is a great representative of Ole Miss. I think almost everyone sees a square peg in a round hole, and I have watched him in practices and srimmages and does seem to make the right reads....HOWEVER.... something that I have notice is that he does not recieve the ball and get it out quickly. Our whole offense is predicated on running plays that requires you to do that....and He just does not. Now....He has the OPPORTUNITY to prove most folks wrong and if he does.....everyone will love him. If he does not...they folks will want someone else. But it appears by just the common football fan that he has a slow release and a weak arm.

I don't think RB is terrible. Probably would be the starter on ever Om team the last 12 years with QB's not named Snead, Masoli or Wallace not on the roster. I just a think CK has special tools that we lucked into. I think the trouble in NY was a blessing in disguise. It humbled him and Freeze was able to tell him from day one that there is a 0 tolerance policy with him. Oxford can be a really fun place where you do stupid shite. If CK would have been tuned loose this summer who knows what would have happened.

Kelly can really help the run game by being able to run the read option, scramble, and throw the long ball. We need a qb to help the run game not rely on the run game being effective regardless of who the qb is.

You just narrowed your 12 year span by 7 years down to 5.

Im not convinced totally that Kelly is a good of a runner as folks hope him to be. In fact, I suspect we are going to see DK in a Brunetti role....even further along those lines, I think I would use Pellerin in Liggins role from last year.

Arm strength is overrated for college quarterbacks, IMHO. Some of the highest scoring offenses in the last couple of decades have been run by quarterbacks with average or weak arms. There are not enough good cornerbacks to cover our receivers one on one in tight coverage.

Accuracy and good decision-making are the most important traits.
