What you're calling a dual-threat QB is really just a bad QB. There's nothing inherent, no specific gene sequence within a more athletic guy that means he won't be able to play in a pro style system
The pro style offense is by far the most complex offense in all of football. That's why very few high schools run it. Even pro style recruits don't usually run pro style offenses. The responsibilities you ask a pro style qb to do are far more complex. Take auburn or Oregon for example, they run the same exact play 50% of the time.
In LSU'S offense the qb is expected to throw open the wr while in in a spread the qb is throwing in bigger windows. There is a reason so few qbs are actual pro style qbs because your athleticism isn't even the 3rd or 4th most important attribute. It doesn't matter if you run a 4.4 40 or have the lowest 3 cone time if you can't go through progressions while taking a 3,5,or 7 step drop.
While AJ isn't a good qb our system isn't kind to young and inexperienced qbs that are doing something for the 1st time.

Saying that a dual threat QB cannot run a pro style offense is lazy.
No one said it's impossible. We are saying that asking a qb to do multiple things he has never had to do is harder than that qb going to a somewhat familiar offense.

Even Mettenberger had just one good year, and he was still spotty in big games.
He was here for 2 years and in 2013 he had the 2nd greatest season in lsu history. He also was not spotty in big games. He had 1 bad game in 2013 against Ole Miss.
We've had good qb play in 2006,2007,2009,2011,2013 but let me guess Miles only get credit for the bad qb play

They need to go after pro style QBs. BAMA seems to be able to find QBs to plug into a pro style system , I don't understand why LSU can't do it
Because bama's oline's have been full of 5* future nfl olineman. Also lsu doesn't have the talent bama does. The last 3 recruiting classes lsu has 1 top 5 finish and bama has 3 straight #1 finishes. Yes your qb looks great when he never gets touched.

LOL.
and u almost had us with your no troll comment.
Is that little fella still in denial that his team didnt give maximum effort on his watch, so it mustve been the draft grades by the NFL that caused this.
Troll administered.
But u have to admit the narcissism is comical. That's what happens in the beginning when youre winning. Lets see how it plays after that first 8-4 season. I cant wait.

Why did you abbreviate Offense like that? you could have spelled it out with two more letters

Well argued. I would add that Miles himself has a tendency to run the ball. Which is great when you are chewing up the yards on the ground, but not so great when your QB finds himself in 2nd or 3rd and long.
We may poke fun at the LSU QBs... Hell I poke fun at them... but LSU has had some pretty good QBs over the years and if they can get improved play this year they should be much more dangerous.

It genuinely surprises me how little I hear from the fans about frustration with Cameron, at the very least from a performance based pay standpoint.
Above all Cameron is well-known for grooming quarterbacks. I totally understand Jennings wasn't "his guy" and was here when he arrived, but I think it's fair to expect Jennings to show more progression at this point. It's also frustrating that LSU didn't even start throwing in wrinkles to the offense, until it played the two biggest dumpster fires on defense in A&M and notre Dame
his seat needs to be very hot if the light doesn't come on for either.

Les needs to develop one.
I agree with the point of very few high school qbs having the poise and calm in the pocket to make the quick decisions necessary for sec comp.
I hate the high school track meet flag football shite.

My aggravation is just with the general idea that an athletic qb can't thrive in the pro style offense.
Last year is on Cameron for waiting until the end of the season to recognize he needed to try some different looks, and in the bigger picture, Les has failed in recruiting and fostering a culture so that there's always a "program" guy or two - QB's that may never be a major factor, but that understand the playbook and can help if need be.

The problem here isn't necessarily taking spread quarterbacks and making them run a pro style. It's not giving them enough time to do it.
Since Perriloux left LSU, our line of quarterbacks has kind of fallen off. Ideally You want a guy who has had at least two seasons learning the offense, playing garbage time, and learning from you QB coach to be your starter. We were set up to be doing that, but when Perriloux left, we had to start Lee and Jeffirson before they're ready. They ideally wouldn't have started till 2010 (and in 2010 and 2011 we did have good QB play), having been in the system. Last year was again a failure to have an upperclassmen in the system for a few years ready to take over after Mett. We missed on a couple guys (Kiel has no chest), we didn't go after Dak early enough, and Phillip Rivers' little brother and a relatively big HS name at the time Jarrard Randall were both a total bust. So guys like Jennings and Harris should have had a few more years to learn the system but there was no one there to lead while they learned. Now you see Cam rebuilding that consistent chain starting with Harris, and now Franks, with more guys going forward from there. We'll be fine.

Cam Cameron is the most overpaid coach in college football.

The problem with what you posted is that kids nowadays refuse to stay put if it playing time isn't available immediately. Look at all the transfers we've had at the position the last few years. It makes what you mentioned extremely difficult.

One of the things that does make me laugh a bit about the perceived (or actual) QB struggles at quarterback is that Cam Cameron seems to be blamed for every QB failure for the last 15 years, which isn't fair. Cameron's been in Baton Rouge for two seasons, the first of which was very good. Yes, he had a lot of weapons but they performed at a very high level leading the country in third down conversions and top 10 in yards per play.
Last year he was forced to play with youth all over the place. Not only the QBs were young but he had young backs getting a lot of snaps and a very young wide receiver group. He did not recruit Jennings.
Now, if he missed on Harris and misses on Franks that will be on him but I think you'll see a much improved passing game this season. Not a great one but much better. He's done a really nice job developing QBs wherever he's been throughout his career. He did a nice job with Mettenberger. Last year was a bust. There will be struggles this year but I think LSU's QB play will improve considerably over the next few years.

This.
Though, the one time we actually went for the big armed, tall pro-style guy, we got Stephen Rivers and passed on Dak
The problems is that even though Les has been at LSU for 10 years, the only QB's that anyone can really say were "his" guys from high school until graduation were Jefferson, Lee, and some backups. Perrilloux and Zach Lee would have changed the conversation, but we'll never know.
There is nothing wrong with Les' "style" per se. Stanford rose to prominence using it, Jimbo Fisher runs more of a pro-style than a spread, Saban's titles were all accomplished using the same formula, and even Bert lost three rose bowls using it.
Bad QB play is bad QB play. It doesn't matter what system its in.
