Really stupid thread. Exact opposite recent examples:

2013: Prediction unranked, last in SEC west by many. Result, SEC champ, BCSNCG.

2010: Outside of top 20, 100:1 longshot for championship in Vegas. Result, SEC champ, BCSNC.

2004: #18. Result, SEC Champ, national champ by many.

2000: Unranked, losing season, no bowl. Result, SECCG.

1997: #16. Result, SECCG loss to eventual national champ in final seconds.

1993: Unranked. Result, Undefeated. SEC and maybe national champ without post season ban.

Plenty more where those came from as well. Now that ESPN has predicted 7-4 for us, a national championship for AU looks like a safe bet.

Yep. Add 1983 national championship too.

Oh, and AU finished somewhere around #5 in 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989 losing either 1 or 2 games only each of those years along with 3 straight SEC championships and AU started top 10 each of those years as well.

What were they ranked preseason in 2004, 2010,2013 ?

Auburn and Arkansas both struggle when they start out ranked high and have their best seasons when they're not. When they start out high, it's usually because poll voters are clueless.

One example is our 2012 season, when our preseason ranking was a joke. When Auburn was ranked high in 2003, I knew that was also a joke and expected us to win in JH that year.

It has nothing to due with pressure form expectation, which some are trying to claim.

AUs 2003 team had some very good talent. The problem was hiring Emsfinger and Nall to replace Bobby Petrino. Those two did not have a clue on running an Offense. It was corrected in 2004 with pretty much the same talent.

Why was that ranking a joke in 2003? The same basic team went undefeated and was the most talented (NFL standards) of any team in the country in 2004. The problem with the 2003 team was coaching and players loosing faith in the staff.

Were you personally aware a team with as much NFL talent as the 2003 Auburn Tigers was having internal issues with team chemistry related specifically to trusting the offensive coaching staff?

Well they didn't make it to ten wins last year so they actually have a chance to do it this year

Auburn is seriously like...the GOAT of little brothers.

I don't know of any team that can go from near worst to first in the middle of a rival's dynasty twice in four years.

Of course, you'd think AU would learn by now not to sell their soul to a spread offense. But oh well, they're back where they belong for the time being. Sucking Bama's cock.

Actually, I was thinking of 2006, when Auburn started at #4 and was #2 when we beat them at JH. I guess that Auburn team was better then I remember, because it actually finished 11-2, with wins over #2 Florida and #6 LSU. I just remember thinking it was overrated and not being surprised when we won.

In 2003, unranked Auburn upset #7 Arkansas in DWRRS. Oddly, we only played 2 teams that were ranked at game time that year (#6 Texas and #3 LSU) and that includes a bowl win against Missouri.

Lol @ the Aubies thinking they somehow "stole" Gus out from under us. Have you ever actually spoken to a Hog fan about your messiah? About 80-90% of us either didn't want Gus as our HC or were completely indifferent about it. There's a small, tiny, inkling of a faction that wanted Gus, and those people are 9 times out of 10 closely associated with him or Springdale High.

Lol @ you. For someone/something to be stolen they/it would have to be owned. Arkansas can only wish to have him under contract one day. Good luck with that.

Did not steal him away, he wasn't ever going back there after how he was treated before. Frank Broyles still makes the big calls in Wal-martville.

Nobody thinks that…it is possible for Gus to be a great coach and not to be who the AD at Arkansas wanted. Arkansas does seem to have a special anger for Gus which comes across as being mad that his team beat your team back in 1999 in the State Quarterfinals.

I personally don't care for Big Bert. His mouth is embarrassing to the University IMO, but his coaching has always been good. Considering where the school was at the time it was an impressive snag.
