So, mandatory military-style education and lack of co-eds DID seriously hurt A&M recruiting in the 1950's and 60's.
You don't say.
Thanks for clearing that up for us, Bammer fan.

I've been to both cities and both campus numerous times for work. I can honestly say they are nothing alike.

Right now, Alabama and South Carolina. Both pretty good in football, suck in basketball, have legendary Head Coaches, an in-State rival named Tigers that are their little sisters.

I'll answer this honestly even if this was supposed to be a flame...
I think A&M is the most similar school to LSU.
1. Passion/tradition of fanbase. I never thought I would see it rivaled by LSU but A&M seems to have it...both the idiots, and the mature fans come together.
2. Great athletics
3. Both truly Southern schools as well as manerisms.
JMHO
I think if LSU were not to have existed and I knew then what I know now, I would have chosen to be an A&M fan.

College Station and Gainesville are both shite holes.
I'm irritated with myself for responding to this .., but you can always tell the folks who know nothing about College Station and/or TAMU--they make statements like that.
College Station is a great town, and anyone w/o an agenda can admit it.

UF and aTm are the closest IMO.
3) both great college towns
4) top tier women everywhere at both campuses
5) both schools are accepting of the the gay community
6) great weather in both places - best in the SEC
7) two best states in the union
lulz

as far as being a well rounded school, Florida does fit the bill.
BUT
culturally and based on history, LSU and A&M are near twins.

Not really.
I mean they did back when they were all-male Clemson A&M prior to WWII .... and then did for the years they were caught cheating their asses off and put on probation.
But when everything is equal it is actually SC that owns the taterheads.

It wasn't a flame. My 2nd response to this was pointing out that rather than actually comparing two schools, LSU fans would get mad. Not all of them obviously.
I certainly didn't expect any LSU fans to compare LSU to aTm though. Thanks for sharing.

culturally, LSU and A&M are not alike at all.

I can't wait for the LSU fans to give their input on which school is closest to theirs.
I was actually going to say Florida (strictly from an athletic viewpoint).
-Both play in arguably the most intimidating stadiums/environment (Death Valley and The Swamp).
-Both fan bases are very loud and boisterous.
-Both schools have very unique colors (Purple & Gold, Blue & Orange).
-Both fan bases are a little unconventional compared to the rest of the SEC.

"Unconventional" makes them sound like hipsters. "backwoodsy and hillbilly-ish" fits better I think.
I was disappointed that so much time was spent discussing similarities between Florida and A&M. Must be a huge boost to A&M's ego.

One of the many paradoxes of the SECR.
Yankee guidos or backwoodsy hillbilly...this place really needs to make up it's collective mind.

I think Tennessee, Arkansas, and Kentucky have that description on lock down.
LSU and Florida have more "brahs" than the other SEC schools.
