Did you read the article? Right now he's planning on going to Medical school, which means he'll just be doing Pre-med at Bama for undergrad and he'll have his pick of whatever Med school he wants from there.
it doesn't matter.
Just being at those schools sets the kid up for a different class of life in all phases.

Unless he was offered hundreds of thousands of dollars so that he could invest in something on the side, then I don't need to read it. It's an Ivy League degree. That will get you into any door to interview. Alabama, no. Ole Miss, no. Florida, no. An Ivy League degree is entirely priceless. The only SEC school that comes close to that type of prestige is Vanderbilt.
Read the article.
An undergrad degree is worthless if you're planning on going to Med school anyway. That's what he's doing.
He's getting the pointless part of his education out of the way for free, and will be able to transfer to whatever Med School he wants from there. Seems smart to me.

There are always a lot of details that aren't going to be reported, for example, his girlfriend might be going to Alabama, or his parents might have told him the money they had saved for his college is completely his to use however he chooses.
Generically speaking starting 300,000 in debt with a top ivy degree is better than debt free from a top 100 school like Alabama, but it isn't always.
The most successful people on the planet don't need a degree at all. Getting accepted to an Ivy is a huge part of the hurdle to getting an Ivy degree. He can already probably get whatever job he wants simply based on the fact that he is one of 8 in the country who got accepted to all the Ivy schools.

Bad move. He could have gone to a better institution and done the Bella Knox career path and just done porn to pay off student loans. That worked out well for her.

Dude its like saying you can become rich growing up living in poverty. Yea it can happen, but i happens "more" for those who start off better in life.

Still, lets say he gets a 3.7 at Alabama and does well at Harvard medical school, but he's against a Harvard graduate with a 3.7 as well. Most likely the later is getting the job.
If this guy wasn't going to your school, you'd call him an idiot as well for doing this.

How about you change it to this kid going to Ole Miss instead. You are completely biased if you can't see how stupid this is.

Who says he won't end up at the Ivy League school of his choice for Med School?

Do they only let one person in per year?

I'm surprised he didn't get a similar offer by another top school. If he was smart enough to get into all of the ivy league schools, it shouldn't have taken much effort to find one elite school willing to give him a very favorable financial package.

If he goes into Med school they do not ask where your Medical degree is from. Also, what do they call the person that graduates last in his class from med school?

Exactly. You're just biased as frick.

In the grand scheme of things, not at all. You leave the Alabama state borders, and no one gives a shite you went to Alabama anymore than they care that I went to Ole Miss. The only SEC school that a random interviewer would actually be interested in is Vanderbilt. Sure, if I'm interviewing in Birmingham, it helps to have an Alabama degree, but in New York, Dallas, or Atlanta, no one knows the difference or gives a shite.

a good undergrad school can help you get into a better medical school. Hospitals give zero f*cks about your undergrad.

That's only part of the equation. You take the best opportunity available that's going to fulfill the requirements for you to reach your ultimate goal.
I'm not going to accept a full ride on a musical theater scholarship if I want to be an accountant.
"Best opportunity" is relative.
