A year ago, LSU quarterback Brandon Harris may have done himself a disservice by lighting up the spring game.

He threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 75 yards and a fourth score. His play created a perception -- largely among LSU fans -- that it was only a matter of time before he took over the offense in 2014.

That never happened but it wasn't because of overconfidence, coach Les Miles said at his post practice address to the media Tuesday. LSU concludes spring Saturday with the spring game at 1 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.

"I don't think that is any factor," Miles said. "I did not ever think he was overconfident. I did not get that. I think he felt he was capable, which is just what you want him to feel. I think he is but I don't think he was overconfident, or not prepared. That's not Brandon Harris."

LSU QB Brandon Harris: 'I'm so much more comfortable' | Video
LSU quarterback Brandon Harris talks to the media after Tuesday's spring practice.
Harris would go on to start one game in which he struggled mightily, and then was for all practical purposes shut down for the season after a 41-7 loss to Auburn. Harris didn't play in the final three games and only a handful of snaps after the Auburn debacle when starter Anthony Jennings was shaken up.

Sounds like he was brought back to reality last year after so much hype in the spring and summer.

Hopefully the other LSU players and their fans learn a lesson from this before this upcoming season starts.

Well he looks 200lb in wet clothes, had to adjust to a pro style offense, had a nagging injury, and his first start was on the road against an Auburn team pissed at LSU upsetting them in 2013. I can't say it's shocking he didn't live up to the hype

I just wish our staff would call plays to our quarterbacks' strengths until they're ready to go under center. the learning curve is so much bigger at LSU than a spread team given 80% of these qb recruits come in running a spread in high school

I didn't see anything in that paragraph to learn a lesson from, just more status quo

Good point hawg. And while true, those spring game numbers WERE dazzling. ANY team's fans would have been as enthused.
Then again, we shouldn't have gotten TOO overconfident, as it was just a spring intrasquad game....

Yeah right, most Tiger fans want to burn the city down if we don't win 12-15 games a year. Some act like we should have taken a step forward last year on offense after losing 90% of our production to the NFL.
I do think we see a step forward this year and hope Harris can get on the field. He has a lot of natural talent. But i'll take either one that can average over 200 yards a game.

Arkansas fans continue to be the top and fastest source for LSU news and notes. Astounding.

You guys ought to just root for them. It would be much easier on everyone.
