To be fair in the NBA you either get fired or get to ride off into the sunset as an all time great

High energy man that will promote the program, unlike Grant. It will be viewed well by the national media.
NBA experience at the highest level which will give him credibility with the recruits. Name recognition.
And from all accounts HE WANTS TO BE HERE. I think it's a good hire, and I bet we bring on a good staff too.

Who should we have hired naysayers?

Will take.
Although I questioned some of his choices for the Mavs, but I'm starting to question Carlisle even more and he's won the only title for the Mavs.

Badass splash of a hire... Thrilled.

I am intrigued to see how he does. I actually can see his personality and style do well in college. I could see him become a recruiting heavy weight. Time will tell. I don't think they had a choice. They needed someone with some personality, passion, and emotion.
This is truly a hire that I can't say it is good or bad. We will find out within 2-4 years.

not a good hire
I was unsure how good a hire this is. But if Gcockboi says its a bad hire, it's probably a homerun.

It was a 3 WEEK coaching search...that's why these threads are three times longer than they normally are

Avery is showing he's and all time hustler though. This man doesn't go long without a coaching job.

Absolutely a home run.
Would be the equivalent of Gruden taking the UT job a couple years ago.
Watch the National media response... Huge hire.

Calipari flopped in the NBA and I bet any of you would want him as coach. Saban was OK in the NFL but did not burn the woods up, and that worked out just fine.

Bama fans were legitimately wondering if they were waiting for Izzo to be eliminated. They were also building hope for Brad Stevens.

Not a homerun, but not a strike out either.
This is a line drive to left foul line that gets stuck in the wall. Let's hope Avery can run it out for an in the park homerun.

I'm happy about it. DGAF what fans of other teams think

We've already discussed why these points don't truly matter.
