just curious what you idiots think, I've never really bought into this argument much that the local pro teams like the Chiefs/Rams are hurting the Tigers much, but some people really eat this line of crap up.
While Sippi and Bama don't have pro teams, neither do Arky, KY and SC, and I just don't see that it matters all that much. If you have the population to support a pro team you can support college or not, besides in the SEC football transcends through fans that care little for sports in general.
I know there are gonna be Mizzou fans that think the Rams leaving will help Mizzou but I'm highly skeptical on this being real. And besides with Oakland scraping the bottom in NFL attendance, even more so than the Rams, should't they either be in LA or STL anyway? I know Cali has the population but since when to granola munching hemp wearing frisbee flower childs care about an archaic sport that represents masculinity? The left coast commies and football just don't really add up to a good mixture, regardless of what a billionaire stadium developer does.

Nope.
And it's fricking retarded that people like Rick Pitino and Tom Jurich have people here in Louisville thinking that when it comes to pursuing an NBA team with the Yum Center. But sadly, they do.

I believe it hurts attendance and potential popularity. People in Alabama have to be a Bama fan, Auburn fan, or pick a pro team out of state to follow. The easiest choice is Bama because of their success so I there are just more people wanting to go to games, watch on tv, an buy crimson crap.

It definitely does. There's nobody I've met since moving to Florida that's nearly as rabid about any college team as lots of people in Arkansas are. And Florida is a much better college sports state than it is a pro sports state. All of the pro teams are shite, but they still definitely steal a lot of the attention.

No validity to the argument.

They fought in WWII for crying out loud. Geez, give em a break...

Some people have limited entertainment funds, so yes, it can hurt. How much is probably driven by opinion.

see, that's we call "anecdotal" evidence. For one, there are just a whole lot of people in Fl that you have NOT met. There are plenty of rabid FSU fans, and when(if) the Gatahs are good again, there will be of them too. Yes the south of Fl especially is a melting pot of retirees and out of states, but I have it on good authority that a large number of babies are born in the state EVERY DAY and they grow up to be "Floridians".
Sorry, argument denied!

Yes. Just look at Tennessee. Their football program started to decline not long after the Titans and Predators arrived. I think they would be much closer to the level of Alabama football if there were no pro sports teams in their state.

yea "bruh" hit the bong, cheer for the team, duh... maybe you should go to Cali and see what I'm talking about since you clearly have no clue.

Florida probably isn't the greatest example just because of the number of colleges in state already creates a splintered fan allegiance to begin with. Then add an absorbent amount of pro teams on top of it with a population that has a decent amount of people who have migrated in from other areas (with other fandoms).

Florida is much more of a college state than pro state. The most popular team in the state is UF, probably followed by FSU. Nearly every professional team here struggles with attendance, you have to keep in mind all of the Florida franchises are relatively new.

As was previously mentioned, some have limited funds to spend on game attendance and/or licensed gear. If you're a TAMU fan (but not necessarily a RABID fan) in Dallas, you can spread that money around to TAMU, the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs, and Stars. If you're in Arkansas, the Hogs are pretty much the only game in town. To believe otherwise is foolish. This is tRant. Not everyone takes their CFB as seriously as we do.

Nope. There are a lot of New Orleans people that don't like LSU, but it's not because they're die hard saints fans and can only choose one, it's because they like to be contrarian douche bags and root agains them.

Plus it's in a hugely populated state with 20 million people. Florida can have a bunch of pro sports teams and still have good college teams because they have the population to support it. Tennessee has 6.5 million people and Missouri has 6.1 million people. There's only so much money to go around.

while that is true, in some cases, it isn't always true. Example: I have relatives born in Fl whose parents "migrated" there and are SEC fans now, as the generations renew those old allegiances brought from other states have a tendency to weaken.
But look at what the state supports, 3 huge schools in UF, FSU and Miami, and a myriad of different pro teams along with all those smaller colleges. I was just in Fl again to watch the Cardinals last week, and the mixture of people and fans never fails to astound me.

As said, pro teams in Florida have tended to have poor attendance. But I think that has less to do with the state being capable to support those teams as it does there's a lot of other variables in Florida which makes it kind of a bad example of a state who can't support both.
While we don't have a pro team here, Louisville is an hour and a half from Indy and just under 2 from Cincy. There's several folks here that support either UofL or UK and are also Bengals/Colts fans. You get into Northern Kentucky and there's several Bengals fans. I don't think the close proximity hurts any of the colleges here.
