If you are talking about financial resources, that point is also highly debatable given that the current CEO of Apple is an Auburn grad and the only Alabama family to ever be named to Forbes list of wealthiest Americans are also Auburn people

If he doesn't, it really just proves my point. Plenty of schools have fans and boosters with more money than Bama. However, bama fans and boosters are probably more dedicated toward donating their last dollar than just about any other school

IMO, you don't label an individual like Tim Cook a "financial resource" unless they have proven they will open up the checkbook and actually give money i.e. Phil Knight.

I bet 17-0 hurts worse and we laugh more than that of a lucky shot. You couldn't even cross the 50 in football.

Alabama finished top 15 in the country in basketball profit. And this without a tournament appearance since 2012. So offering 3-4 million annually for a basketball coach is justified.

Christ almighty, you're hopeless. Next you'll tell us how Alabama's 1.2 billion dollar endowment isn't real.

The big money for the conf. comes from the TV contract. A better basketball league = a more valuable TV contract which = more money for all schools in the conf. With apologies to all of the baseball lovers, as far as the TV contract is concerned the rest of the sports are just "filler" that make the member schools little to no real money throughout the year. Certainly it would benefit the all member schools to have better basketball programs.
Finally, SEC fans are no different than any other fans around the country. They will support winners. If your school has a consistently good basketball program fans will come out to watch. This is true in spite of the fact that the south is still primarily college football country.

This is actually an interesting question.
Had I not seen what Billy Gillespie was able to accomplish almost immediately at A&M--a program that hasn't traditionally supported hoops--I'd answer "no."
But I've learned that basketball--probably moreso than any other sport--is a sport that can turn things around quickly; and it doesn't take many folks to fill the venues.
Success begets success ... and *poof* ... all of a sudden, it's the big ticket in town.
Plus, it's a relatively simple port for a spectator to follow.
You can get a bunch of people in an arena who've never before seen a hoops game, and by the end, they're fans.
It all starts with the coach.
And WINNING.
And marketing.
