Is it really worth it for certain SEC schools to dish out for better BB coaches?

No flame. No troll. Serious topic.
It was brought up not too long ago that a good portion of the league doesn't even turn a profit from the basketball season. Would the AD's of said schools actually be willing to put even more money into the program with the risk of losing even more money if it turns out that the university or state just isn't into the sport as a whole enough to support it? We're definitely football heavy in this part of the world and basketball will always take a back seat in both the fans' minds and the donors'. Is it even possible to get the majority of the SEC to start opening the checkbook enough to attract the better quality coaches in the first place? Obviously those that actually make good money from the season like UK and Arkansas will continue to support their programs, but will the SEC as a whole ever turn that corner?

I hope they break the bank hiring a great coach to improve our conference
we need other schools besides UK, tFlagship, and Florida to be great in basketball

If you're talking about State, it's only been a few years since basketball was a major interest. 6+ years ago it was looked forward to more than our football season.
So, yes.
So, yes.

We make money off of basketball.

If our next hire goes according to plan, we will be a perennial sweet 16 team at least.

Also wouldn't be surprised if the SEC is pushing it. The money is definitely there from SECN.

Personally I would rather be good in baseball than basketball. Give me some football and baseball natties now and then and I wouldn't give a shite if A&M dropped friggin' basketball. To me it's always been a sport for parts of the country with tiny high schools and bad winter weather. All those weird little coaches with weird accents and even stranger last names.
I'm sure the SEC ultimately wants to be the nation's greatest conference in every sport. It's already reigning king in football, baseball, softball, gymnastics... It would seem obvious to me that raising the stakes on men's basketball would be one of the first tasks assigned the new commissioner. How many member schools will fall into line in what amount of time is up to him and them (and the rest of us...). But I'm sure that it COULD be profitable pretty much everywhere, ultimately. I guess. Hell, I don't know. Like I said I don't care.

It is laughable that bammers think they are getting a big name. All the money in the world doesn't change the following things:
Not in the top 30 in wins or winning percentage
Not in the top 40 in most NCAA appearances
Never been to a final four
Only been past sweet sixteen once in entire history

Mississippi State basketball profits: $2.19M
Alabama basketball profits: $5.96M (includes a $2M loss from women's basketball)
ETA: which schools in the SEC don't turn a profit in basketball?

Who's not making a profit though?

I am convinced TN needs to just disband its baseball team and put all those funds towards basketball.
I think we have potential to be a top 25 basketball program but it seems we are hopeless in baseball.
Football and basketball combo is all that matters on Rocky Top.

and still have 10 times the basketball history that Auburn has...

What is your point? Myself and most Auburn fans I know are realistic enough to know our basketball program is not good historically. A lot of bammers are delusional enough to think their program is good
