Yeah, it is stupid as heck.
I read it and decided to post to show the ignorance behind such a rule. Early signing period would help this stop, right?

Any chance at all that this can be appealed?

I really don't know the full story regarding the Baylor situation anyway other than some brief reading yesterday
here's the full story - the kid made it up. He took money from boosters he didn't know and Baylor kicked him off the team for it. He issued an apology for lying about it today after the NCAA statement yesterday made him look like an idiot
quote:
NCAA continues to be a joke when it comes to discipline
Much like the Baylor situation, this has nothing to do with the NCAA. This punishment was enforced by the SEC. Creating a straw man doesn't change the fact that LSU broke the rules. Play by the rules and there are no issues

this is insane. LSU got screwed by this kid badly when HE was the one who signed FAA papers and then changed his mind.
how can the SEC punish the school for this? makes no sense

Who cares....LSU is about to land a top five class regardless.

Magnolia Heights lineman committed to the Tigers during a July visit and signed a financial aid agreement with LSU in early August. Per NCAA rules, the agreement allows schools to have unlimited contact with prospects planning to enroll early at an institution. However, according to his father, LSU isn't going to act upon the agreement in case his son changes his mind.
quote:
"LSU is not using it because if Matt was to change his mind they would have to report it," he said. As of now, Womack's father says he is son is "still all LSU" but doesn't rule out the possibility of the offensive tackle visiting the Crimson Tide again this season.

The FAA comes from and was created by the NCAA. I agree. If there are rules in place, they should be followed. Taking away the use of the FAA since that was "violated" then fine. Taking away 20+ evaluation days on top of that is B.S.
Like I said, there are no standard penalties in place. The SEC/NCAA is a joke when it comes out to handing out penalties. Some items are investigated while others are not.

I'm sure coach Yaw yaw went over to Senatobia to get one more crack at Womack now that he was on the LSU team, but Womack was already solid on Alabama and the womacks could have told Alabama exactly what went down and when. And then ole lane went ahead and notified the proper people at the Ncaa as he is well versed in rule violation.
Of course this is pure speculation

You can't fricking read a kid's mind in the future. Get rid of that stupid FAA agreement if this dumbass rule remains
There is no problem if the schools follows the same contact rules in place for kids that don't sign a FAA.

Karma is a bitch. Whoever pulled this bullshite move is going to get theirs.

LSU should tell the SEC where to kiss it.
This is ridiculous. If the NCAA has a problem with it, let the SEC come after us.

that's the only option. no way you could ever know for sure a kid won't flip. I'd never use the relaxed contact rules if a violation depends on what someone else does.

LSU offered him the paperwork ...
He didnt download the scholarship himself and send it in...
LSU took a risk to get more contact and secure the player. And it worked on 4/5 of the early enrollees it sounds like. But they should have continued with minimal contact with the recruit. I guarantee Coach O was not versed in this rule, and he took his hummer down to Tobie Town and ripped his shirt off in front of the womacks and challenged them to fight... ( would not have been the first time Coach O did any of this)
Yaw Yaw .. ncaa sanctions

clearly you don't understand the rules.
You can have unlimited contact provided a kid signs. He did not. You therefore broke the rules. You obviously should have followed the normal contact rules until you were sure.
Womack was taking visits all fall and went to multiple Bama home games and an Ole Miss game. In fact he went to Bama for their first game of the year. At what point do you think he was solid? Why on earth would you ignore the normal contact rules for a prospect like that?

kid flips to another school and the school HE signed FAA papers with gets violations?
unreal

I understand that LSU violated the rules of contact, as they are written. However, there is no advantage in having unlimited contact with a player who has secured full financial aid with said University when he ultimately signs elsewhere. The purpose of the FAA is to limit the circumstances where a scholarship is pulled by the University late in the recruitment process.
