He played 2 years and he's a 6th rounder.

quote:

and you see our defense like its now going to be one of the best in the league in your crystal ball

I see us getting more than 1-2 sacks per player on our front 7

Lets bet on it: if the Saints get more than 12 sacks (2 per contributor on the front 4), $200 to the charity of my choice. If they become the worst pass rushing team in NFL history with less than 12, I'll donate $500

Where have I said it will be one of the best defenses in the league radio?

quote:

we made a good bit of "upgrades" at positions, but they were upgrades from "mediocre" players to "good" solid production type of players, they were not exactly the type of great players that would allow you to just assume it instantly wins more games for us.

So we've upgraded a good bit of players from mediocre to solid, but it can't translate to any more wins? No way, no how. Not like we lost a lot of close games. He'll, special teams improvement alone would have led to more wins.

I'm done man.

quote:

I wonder what the other position he is between even is.

A 4-3 and 3-4 MLB. He's a 2 down MLB at the NFL level in a normal 4-3 defense. He hasn't shown the coverage skills to be a 3 down linebacker at this level yet.

He can stay on the field more with his size as a 3-4 ILB. He's enormous and will be great against the run. Great instincts, and should excel going forward.

It's literally the reason he wasn't considered a first rounder before his injury despite his high level of play

it's also something that Beckwith himself has admitted he needs to lose weight and get faster for
quote:

see our defense as being the same or only slightly better then last year

And we had 30 sacks last year, not 1 per player. Brilliant

We've improved all 3 levels of the defense this offseason.

quote:

there was great opportunity to "greatly" improve the pressure we put on opposing QB but chose not to do that.

We've added 3 edge players (4 that didn't play for us last year if Kikaha is healthy) plus got a FS that allows Vaccaro to play in the box or near the LoS.

quote:

at this point we better hope to find a starting DE from the undrafteds that is unstoppable

fricking brilliant. What's wrong with Hendrickson?

quote:

but slightly better wont get you any more wins then last year

Sure could have helped against Oakland, NY, Denver, Tampa, and KC. It's a game of inches

As of now, we have Lattimore, a healthy Breaux, a healthy PJ Williams, to go along with a more experienced Bell, Vaccaro. At linebacker, we added Klein who's far better than JL, and allows Robertson to play outside. Also frees up Ellerbe and the UF guy.

On the defensive line, we get a healthy and more experienced Rankins, Fairley, Cam (who's exceptional), and 4 possible solutions at DE, 1 who's already proven to be able to rush the passer. 3/4 of our dline has well above average pass rushing ability for their position.

But you have an injury crystal ball
quote:

last time I checked our corner backs weren't our main guys we rely on for pressuring the QB now were they?

A pass rush is useless if the QB can unload the ball at will as we saw plenty last year

Also, just because a pass rush isn't a need, that doesn't mean that corner isn't also a need.

Furthermore?, we likely have the best defensive line we've had in the Payton era.

And on top of that, teams with great secondaries can generate quick throws and QB pressure via blitzing. See Arizona before Chandler Jones.

You seriously predicted 1 sack per main member of our front 4. that means that Cam, Fairley, and even Rankins all greatly reduce their totals from a season ago. He'll, Okafor had 3.5 last year in limited snaps.

Come on man, you're making a fool of yourself.

quote:

teams with double digit leads on us wont need to throw it so yes very few sacks

How many games did the Saints lose by double digits last year?

We have 3 players that are very, very good at generating pressure for their positions. We then have Okafor, Kikaha, Hendrickson to hold down the other side. One of those guys can get the job done. We're not worse.
quote:

lattimore but they were a better fit at a position of "need

Wait, so cornerback wasn't a position of need?

quote:

hey if lattimore never gets hurt ever, wow, the saints will be geniuses for making that pick but that is an insane risky gamble

What?

Every player can get injured. Barnette could year his ACL day 1. You can pretty easily and accurately test out the flexibility and stability of a hamstring.

Barnette has had hamstring issues too btw....

quote:

that's always injured hoping he magically somehow never has another injury. I see him as being another Robert meachum, lots of talent and skill but cant stay healthy

Jesus Christ man. You can't make this shite up. How many games did Meachem even miss from 2009-2011? His problem wasn't his health with the Saints, he was just never more than a burner and a good blocker. His issue was talent.

And Lattimore played basically uninjured last season and was phenomenal. It's a fricking hamstring, he'll be fine if he takes care of his body.

-and that's said as someone who's torn their hamstring.
quote:

Mostly came here bc I'm kind of a dick and most Saints fans are easy targets. Not saying you, I think you have a little sense.

Ah, so you're a troll with psychological issues, not a complete dumbass.

Much better
Why would we want to get rid of 2 of the best posters on here for a year?

If either one of y'all are right, how about the other idiot predicting 1 sack per player on our main guys upfront.

Gonna have a 20+ sack drop this season
quote:

1 sack each sounds about right, "maybe" 2 or 3 guys sneak in an extra sack or half sack in garbage time.

Holy frick

1 sack each

quote:

saints defense ends up below 30 again

Again? When's the last time we had under 30 sacks?

How do we hurt our pass rushing ability this offseason?

quote:

then the players we NEEDED that were there on the board for us and could help us win now

What need did we not address?
quote:

most overpaid coach in football (should be unemployed),

quote:

I'd prefer see those kids go be successful.

Yep. If it is one thing the Saints don't know how to do, it is develop offensive weapons.
Haven't you been complaining about taking not picking Williams?
quote:

He ran a 4.93 at 250 at a pro day which are notoriously fast.,

I don't have the numbers on me but he is prob close to a 10th percentile athlete if that

He also put up really good 3 cone and 20 yard shuttle drills

Kikaha vs Tim Williams

40 - 4.9 - 4.68
Vert - 34.5 - 33.5
20 shuttle - 4.33 - 4.57
3 cone - 7.13 - 7.36

So he's quick and accelerates well
Which is why i wouldn't count on solely him.

I just think we'll find a consistent player from one of Okafor, him, or Hendrickson. We already know Okafor can do it at this level situationally, which is an upgrade
quote:

Kikaha was already a fringe NFL athlete coming in.

The fact that he doesn't rely solely on his athleticism isn't a negative here

He first 2 were basically the same injury, and his recovery for this one has supposedly gone extremely well in the repair and recovery. We'll see if we need to bring a vet in pretty early since he's already ready to role in some fashion in OTAs.

I mean I still think TM7 will be a great player with his 2 torn ones in different legs.

quote:

Re: Kikaha anything we get from his is lagniappe but as a GM of coach you cannot lean on him for the future. You have to plan like he isn't there

I agree with that going into the draft and now. We've added 2 players there, making his possible contribution a plus if it happens. I don't think you can evaluate at the present

I see 3 new guys this season outside of Kikaha. 2 will definitely make the team, and the 6th rounder has the talent.
And Saints signed Okafor, have Kikaha coming back, and drafted 2 DEs

quote:

Deatrich Wise(4th Rd)

Isn't he going to be a 3-4 end? I don't think he's considered a pass rusher at the NFL level

quote:

novel concept, i know

They also have a stacked secondary and Hightower.
quote:

Saints only have three wide receivers on the roster who are legit NFL guys and didn't draft anyone. Great spot for Travin.

Coleman will probably make the team too, but I agree. He's going to make it and it is a great fit
quote:

still didn't draft him, undrafted free agent...

We love UDFAs. He'll have a real shot to make the team if he works hard.

Seems like it was smart not to draft him....
Duke Riley in the 3rd right before us and a G from OSU in the 4th
