Police seem to be okay though.

quote:

Two officers were hit by rocks in the incident, police said. They were treated at the scene, and the extent of their injuries was not provided.

don't run from cops and you won't get shot. Pretty easy concept. It's one I've followed my whole life and I've made it this far with 0 gunshots.

We definitely need new policies regarding treatment of the mentally ill in this country. I just can't support this one, however.

From the article...

quote:

The officers attempted to use a stun gun to incapacitate Zambrano-Montes after he would not obey commands to surrender, before they opened fire and killed him, the statement said.

So what exactly do people against a shooting like this expect police to do when they've used alternatives to try to subdue the guy?

My question as an LEO supervisor, were there Extended Range Impact Weapons (40mm, beanbag, etc) available? Pepperball?

Taser is really ineffective from far enough to be out of a rock's effective range?

Basically, had they officer's exhausted all less-lethal options prior to deadly force?

OTOH, judging an officer's actions from a videophone recording that may well have been edited to cut out the preceding events is unfair.

I don't know, not kill him. Maybe let him go and catch him another time.

Opening fire in city streets is probably far more dangerous than anything he would do with his rocks

Once upon a time in a history not too far away... 3 cops would have been able to tackle, subdue, and handcuff a man. Ive only seen it about one million times on the show Cops.

If 3 guys can't subdue a guy throwing rocks, perhaps they shouldn't be cops. Hopefully they no longer will be cops.

I don't expect the Police to kill someone who is running away, they have to chase after them and arrest them. That's in their job training, amirite?

I really don't understand the "don't start shite, won't be shite" argument...

That explanation is too easy/simple, and it's not absolute like that.

If someone in a bar starts a fistfight because he got bumped, is it open season to blow him away with a gun?

No? Ok. So maybe there some baseline parameters that need to be defined?

The response needs to be appropriate for the level of force originally used

Not really.. If some one comes at you with a knife are you gonna grab a knife or the gun that's laying right next to it?
