Here's a few:
Verdicts (also reveals some info about the event):
LINK /
Vandenburg coaching them (he can be heard on tape cheering them on etc. so it's not just the word of this co-defendant):
LINK /
On Vandenburg giggling:
LINK /
Older but still chock full of info on the day to day trial:
LINK /
There's more out there and remember the Tennessean does have an article limit for non-subs. Hope that helps.

Nobody brags about their academic standards for athletes. We all accept that athletes aren't getting in on the strength of their supernal grasp of academia.

I think he's trying to argue that slavery was around a lot longer than the United States has been a country, so your comment doesn't make sense.

Dammit. The day you can't trust vile rapists to get the nuances of their historical numbers correct is the day we as a society have failed vile rapists.

Didn't slavery in north America start around 1619 and end in like 1865? Not quite 300 years.
The only point I was trying to make is that you can't hold the USA accountable for slavery that took place before there was a USA.

Several articles from the Tennessean's trial coverage. They covered it fairly well. That said, the Tennessean has an article limit - but hey there's only a few days left in this month. Also, several local tv stations, especially in Middle Tennessee covered the trial in depth and included many quotes from it.
I appreciate you and piggilicious chiming in with your substantive posts.
I hadn't followed the trial so I'm just now catching up.
I see that Batey actually apologized to the victim in court. Did Vandenburg admit any fault at all?

On a football note though, I saw the kid from Natchez play in the private school playoffs either his Junior or Senior year against Tri County. He ran around, through, under and over the Tri County defense and kick off teams. I think he just finished up at Alcorn.

I addressed that issue above. But -- not that I want to get drawn into this entire discussion of race -- you don't actually know what he allegedly meant by his alleged words. Maybe he was talking about white people in North America, since the U.S. as we know it did develop and become a piece of land worth fighting over from a thriving slave trade (in part from the famous Atlantic triangle trading system) generally run by white people. Maybe he was concatenating the various societies into a continuum. Or maybe he was just drunk and stupid and a rapist and not rehearsing what his drunk and stupid rapist arse was spouting. Maybe it's all of these things. Maybe it's nothing. Who can say what the truth is in a world that has killed Santa Claus?

The United States or the "New World" abolished slavery after 245 years.

The New World and the USA are not the same thing.
You can't blame the USA for slavery that happened in North America before there even was a USA.

Welp, this is a great excuse for the Aryan Brotherhood to take this a-hole out in prison. See ya
Except that there are a whole lot more brothers in prison than whites.
The white dude is more fricked than the black dude IMO.

You're definitely welcome and I agree that Piggilicious has provided some good info.
As to any apology... To my knowledge Vandenburg hasn't apologized. Batey's apology is a bit unusual in that it happened on the stand - attorney's often tell clients to STFU when it comes to that even when it's an apology based on an car accident. IOW, Batey had to go against the advice of his attorneys. When apologies happen in the trial phase, it's almost ALWAYS either during the sentencing phase or later.
As to Vandenburg... when the verdict was read he shook his head 'no' like it was bullshite and his father had an 'outburst' and abruptly left the courtroom after the verdict was read. No word yet on what that outburst entailed. For his part, Batey did his best to remain stoic and kinda just stared ahead.
I think Batey feels bad about what happened but Vandenburg, the psychopath, doesn't feel an ounce of remorse.

I can't believe we are carefully scrutinizing the historical accuracy of statements made by scholarly athletes while participating in the act of raping an unconscious woman.
Their collective actions, with or without the alleged statement in the OP, is more than enough testimony that they were pretty damn numb to the victim's worth as a human being.

It certainly looks that way.
Remember that scene in "Animal House" where Pinto has the angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other while the underage girl lies passed out in the bed? Most guys (if you're honest) can identify with that temptation (well, maybe not underage but the passed out girl in your bed part). Thus it was a funny scene because there's always a heavy dose of truth in good comedy.
But I'm pretty sure just about none of us can relate to a friend approaching us and saying "Hey man, my girlfriend is passed out. Do you want to bang her and treat her like one of those chicks in a Girls Gone Wild video? Well, except those girls have their eyes open. Did I mention she's passed out and she's my girlfriend? I'll watch and cheer you on!"
