I know the season is basically over... but what the hell happened to him? I remember being really excited about him, but he couldn't do a damn thing this year.

And I also remember him being a pretty high 4 star.

Fought through a lot of injuries through his career, but just never lived up to the hype for whatever reason... I still wonder what could have been with him at linebacker. He might've made a pretty good 34 OLB.

Was it the foot injury that he had nagging all last year?

The old coaching staff wasted 3 years of his life by bouncing him between end and linebacker and never letting him learn one or the other.

Our coaching staff wasted his talents, just like they wasted Craig Sanders. Both players should have had 5 years at LB. Instead Sanders plays special teams and spot time at DE while LO played the position he was most comfortable with and not the position he was built for

Wasn't that talented

What in the world gives you the impression that Everyone's Favorite Bust ( aka Craig Sanders) could play linebacker in a 4-3? Granted no way he would have been worse in coverage than Holland, but he would never get off blocks or scrap well enough to play lb.

I think he was actually blind in one eye. Not joking. DE was probably better position bc of this.

wut? he had no lateral movement, no way he was a linebacker.
As for Owens I think he was a 3-4 OLB trying to play in a 4-3 system. Also he wasn't as explosive as I thought he would be.
That LB class of Owens, Holland, White, and Curry was very disappointing. When we signed it I thought we had brought in a very solid core group of guys but White had injury issues, Curry attitude problems, and Owens/Holland just never developed into SEC caliber defenders

Hard to do anything from the sideline. He was the only DE that was getting a pass rush, when they actually let him play.
Also in the NC last year, he was wreaking havoc on Winston in the 1st half. Then Lawson played almost the entire 2nd half, and Owens stood on the sideline. SMH

Should have been a LB
Posted on 12/19/14 at 7:58 am to AUtigR24
We have been playing so many guys out of position, and swapping them around, who knows?

Sanders was too slow for the LBer position & I can't emphasize that enough. I personally think he put on too much weight for his frame really lost speed. Gym rats don't always = good football players.

you are all crazy. Sanders was an excellent tackler and was always the first one down the field on special teams. You cant sit there an tell me he wasnt fast enough to play LB, or that he couldnt tackle better than fricking Jake Holland. Especially with four years of practice. Not buying the nega barner hate on this one. Frost? Fine. Sanders? I will tot you to death over that

Yeah you guys are all correct... Clearly should fire the coaches and hire all of you. Obviously a waste of talent, can't believe they sat him on the sideline when he was so obviously our best DE

We had a good many players that were similar to Owens the past few years. Think about the guys we signed that we had big expectations out of who really did nothing
I will start
L. Owens
G. Wright
J. Whittiker
C. Sanders
T. Reed
K. Frazier
Just to name a few. While I was looking at our last 5 years recruiting classes, I got the sads looking at all the players we signed that got gone somehow and never played. I will put together a list today for your amusement.

Brah, you realize this is a message and our contribution to society is to second guess everyone, make major decision and melt constantly.
That and to watch AU21 videos are our only really jobs.
Chill
