Yes, Memphis has some upside in football. Stadium is a decent size, Memphis has some talent. Moving to a Power 5 would help them, I think.
Big 12 just really fricked this whole thing up from the word go. Terrible leadership, and the smaller schools were all too willing to suckle at the Longhorn teet.

Tulane wouldn't be a terrible choice, IMO. The SEC has an athletically shitty, academically respected school and nobody really cares. Gets the XII into Louisiana and our recruiting hotbed, a destination city in New Orleans for conference championship events, and geographically neighbors the current footprint of the conference. Win-win, IMO.

In addition to all your excellent points, here is yet another reason the Big-12 will expand. If the Big12 stands at 10, they will have the smallest voice of representation when P5 autonomy arives in January. With 10 votes (15%), they might as well be Alaska in the House of Representatives.
LINK
"Conference representatives would make up the rest of the 80 total votes: 15 representatives from the ACC, 14 from the Big 10, 14 from the SEC, 12 from the Pac-12 and 10 from the Big 12. This structure is not finalized."

What about Colorado State?
USNWR Top 100 School
Decent enough in football
Tournament team in men's basketball
Gives them the Denver footprint (Lord knows CU doesn't give the PAC much of anything)
It would be smart, IMO.

I've said this for a while. If TCU and Baylor can be success with tu/OU/A&M's leftovers, then Tulane can be successful with Louisiana scraps.

BYU apparently wants to stay independent.

I added a 2nd comment that stated they will be either going west(Denver) or Florida along with Big1 land.

It's becoming more and more evident that the SEC and B1G have had the right attitude about conference expansion. I know college football traditionalists don't love it, but the amount of money the SEC is pulling in compared to the Big 12 is insane.
Glad Mizzou is in the SEC and I can't help but laugh at bitter Big 12 fans that think their teams are better off in the Big 12 than Mizzou is in the SEC.

BYU wants in (at least the coaches are very vocal about it). However, the issue around no Sunday play makes basketball and/or baseball tournaments a significant challenge for Big12.

Outside of the PAC, who doesn't want them, they have no clear, good choice, so maybe it is better for the short term, when the bev10 inevitably folds, being a lone wolf will be the mark of doom, they may have to join some 2nd rate conference then.

Cincinnati.
Oh, shite. Well, there goes the Big 12

I feel like its now or never for UCF. If they want to ever play with the big boys then they need to springboard off their recent success into the Big 12 right now.

Can some Aggie post a brief synopsis of why this is the sips fault?
2006 - Kevin Weiberg pitches the idea of a Big 12 Conference Network. Is rebuffed by Deloss Dodds. Forms Big Ten Network a year later.
2007 - Texas proposes the idea of a Lone Star Network to Bill Byrne. Wants to split the operating costs 50/50 but wants the revenue split 70/30 in favor of Texas. Byrne says no.
2009 - Texas secretly meets with Larry Scott from the PAC 10 and promises them Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M with the possibility of Colorado and Texas Tech if they wanted them.
2010 - Fresh of their national championship attempt Dodds pitches the idea of a "Longhorn Network" to ESPN.
2010 - The rest of the conference finds out about the secret meeting with the PAC 10. Missouri courts the Big Ten. Dan Beebe requests a "loyalty check" from the rest of the conference. Nebraska says "we're out". and accepts a bid to the Big Televen. Colorado, concerned that their bid to the PAC 10 would go away if Texas politics goes south, secures their bid. A&M, fed up with Texas attempting to negotiate on their behalf, courts the SEC through Gene Stallings. All of a sudden, "saving the conference" is a priority to Texas.
2011 - The Longhorn Network is announced. Multiple attempts are made to circumvent NCAA rules regarding recruiting and high school athletics. The NCAA basically rules that, if the Longhorn Network attempts to recruit on Texas' behalf, ESPN as a whole would be considered a Texas booster. (paraphrased)
2011 - Fed up with Texas' bullshite, A&M BoR gives Loftin permission to speak with the SEC. Baylor attempts to sue to block the move, is laughed at, A&M joins the SEC. Texas convinces the rest of the conference that TCU is an upgrade in every way shape and form.
2011 - Dodds tells Alden, the Missouri AD that he and his school need to, "remember their place". Alden realizes that, maybe the SEC isn't such a bad idea and A&M holds the door open for them. After Missouri goes through, the door is slammed in the face of the Big 12. West Virginia joins as the Big East falls apart around them. Syracuse and Pittsburgh join the ACC effective 2013.
2011 - 1 conference game is put on the Longhorn Network, just like we said it would, after Dodds' lies to the contrary.
2012 - A&M's exit fees are reduced from the $30 million that Baylor and Texas claimed to $9 million, which was less than Nebraska paid. 2 conference games are put on the Longhorn Network, just like we said would happen.
2013 - Ole Miss game is put on the Longhorn Network, just like we suspected would happen.

To fix it they added TCU (market they already have) and WVU (makes no geographical sense).
They're going to keep fricking up.
Only way to salvage the WVU addition is to take more east coast teams.
Contrary to the prevailing opinion on here, I think East Carolina wouldn't be a terrible add. They're normally pretty good by comparison and have pretty strong fan support.
Take Cincinnati, USF, and UCF and you've got a halfway quasi-not embarrass east presence. It's not perfect, but it could be a short term solution.
Really, the Big 12 should've tried to have pulled Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Louisville, WVU, Maryland and/or Georgia Tech a couple of years ago when expansion talk was running wild.

That conference keeps becoming more bush league. I can't even see Cincinnati without thinking of Chick-fil-A.

BYU doesn't want to stay Indy. They aren't viewed on the same level as ND. Their coach was openly campaigning for a Big 12 invite.
The Big 12 is pretty much screwed, the only options they have are second class directional schools. They are landlocked as well, and have no hope of adding any flagship schools. They'll just have to add whoever, and get to 12 to avoid getting left out of the playoffs again.
I would say I feel sorry for them, but it's 100% their own doing. The remaining schools let Texas go in dry on them and now they are paying the price.

They may be seeking admission into the ACC because they feel the Big 12 didn't abide by the bylaws when determining the conference champion, and they feel that TCU was unfairly supported when they beat TCU head-to-head.
If the ACC is taking a small private school from Texas they are going to get SMU or Rice. DFW or Houston over Waco is a no brainer.
Houston would be a better long term choice than Baylor too.
