He's this years Kelvin Benjamin.
Kelvin Benjamin had 1000+ yards and 15 TDs his senior year.
Kelvin Benjamin is 6'5 and while inconsistent definnitely catches more than 1/100 targets.
They are not even remotely alike

Sammie Coates is closer to Darius Heyward-Bay, but he has more size and jumping ability.

Kelvin Benjamin left after his redshirt sophomore year, IIRC.

I was going to go with Stephen Hill but Heyward-Bay is pretty much spot on comparison.

And unbelievably, better hands.

DHB and Coates in a football catching contest could destroy the universe.
Add in Ricardo Louis and it would for sure destroy the universe

They have the same scouting report coning out of college. I don't know if you've seen Benjamin's numbers this year, but he has 120 targets and 61 receptions.

Except that Benjamin was a better pass catcher and route runner than Coates is.

They are both poor route runners and catchers, we could argue to what degree, but that would be pointless.

All I know is that despite Kelvin Benjamin's rookie numbers, overall, he has graded out as the worst rookie wide receiver in the NFL this year (as of a couple weeks ago). Grades were posted by PFF.

He's barely caught more than half of his targets and gives up on routes every week. Cam has thrown multiple picks because of Benjamin giving up on routes. Fortunately for Benjamin, he is still Carolina's best receiving option. He's averaged something like 9 targets a week and has been productive because of the high volume.

Somebody is going to waste a high draft pick on Sammie. I get the allure of the speed, size and freakish athleticism, which can make up for a lot, but his hands just aren't there yet.
Not even close.
Not even close.

23.9 yards per reception this season (3rd best nationally), 21.5 yards per reception last season, and the mahority of that is coming straight through the air. You can't teach that type of skill-set. He is a vertical threat that can create separation even when the defense knows whats coming, and beat safety help as well. By comparison Darius Heyward-Bay couldn't crack 15.4 yards per reception throughout his entire collegiate career despite his elite timed speed.

Sammie Coates is a lot like Cordarrelle Patterson out of UT 2 years ago, except he's not TOTALLY lost as WR. I'm also not sure if Sammie would ever be willing to play STs as a returner or if he'd be good at it. Patterson was utterly and completely lost as a WR in college. He got to the NFL and has by all accounts put in the work necessary to learn how to run a route and make the most of the pure athleticism. Sammie...I'm not sure if he'll put that work in to get the reward.

Sammie Coates is a freak of nature. He had all of the ability coming out of Leroy High School as a 6'3, 170 pound, raw athlete. He's still raw, but now he's around 215-220 pounds and still runs a 4.3 with a 45 inch vertical. He can be as good as he wants to be in the NFL. If he worked on his hands, he would be unbelievable. He has almost everything you look for in a wide receiver and he is every bit of a freak of nature.

Sammie Coates doesn't not even close to having elite ball skills. Just because someone made a couple gifs of him making solid catches doesn't prove anything
As TTs said, Sammie has elite athleticism. If he didn't have elite athleticism, he probably wouldn't have even started for AU. That is his ticket and you can't teach it. Don't pretend that he is some great WR, can run routes extremely well to create separation or has good ball skills. He is just an athlete who plays WR.
