Oh Chuck, you're always good for a laugh...

Makes me sad, also sad I wasn't still up there to march with my fellow blazers.

They wanted to build their own stadium but it got voted down. It looked pimp too.

The program was set up to fail. The repeated blocking of coach hiring and the refusal to upgrade any facilities.... Not to mention refusing to even discuss another location to play games
I hope uab alums and fans fight it. It really is a load of crap. And will hurt uab and bham in the long run.
this exactly. contrary to popular belief UAB has a solid following and the administration is fully behind the program. there have been rumblings for years now. that stadium deal really pissed some people off down there, especially with the amount of funding they had secured in such a short time and the commitments they had secured. lets hope this is the beginning of tptb doing something about it.

I don't see how this will go through. I'm guessing the City will use this as a way to get the dome they've been raising hell about. Amazing to me how the UAT folks could be so terrified of UAB.

They shut down football, bowling and rifle. But they still have men's soccer.

What are NCAA rules on football transfers? Since the school closed the program are players eligible immediately? If so, are there any players who AU targeted who ended up at UAB or players who we would go after?

Men's soccer can be played a Legion field, so they don't have to pay for any other facility for UAB to use.

Fingers crossed.

Pretty sure they've got their own soccer field over there by club south (assuming that lovely dive is still operational).

They very well might, I just figured that was the reason. I don't attend UAB and haven't been to an athletics event in years.

Same here.
I was cautious until the city proved it could change with the Barons' move. I'd love to see a dome stadium that seats 40-50K. Use it for UAB football, conventions, and (crosses fingers) an MLS franchise. That'd be fricking awesome.

I would be shocked if they weren't able to play immediately.
And we'd have the strongest recruiting pitch in the country for them: "Play for us and stick it to the UA BOT."

Thought about that too.
I know UAB goes after a different caliber of player, but you have to think they have at least a couple worth taking a look at. I did go on Rivals and saw where there were some over the last few years who had offers from AU.

That's my hope too and not do derail the thread too much, but that was being investigated when the original plans for the dome crashed.

UA should be ashamed. I hope the blowback is tremendous. My dad was a fervent UA fan who went to UAB. He is a UA fan no more.

A MLS franchise would thrive in BHam with no competition from other major sports

Tell me about Bill Clark.
Defensive minded coach. Did an outstanding job of building Prattville into the power that it is today. Helped start South Alabama's football program as the DC. Took the HC job at Jacksonville st last year and they had one of their best seasons ever under Clark. Took the UAB job this past year and had a fantastic recruiting class for UAB. As well as gave them their first winning season in a decade. Noted bammer. But imo has earned a coaching job in the SEC. He is well connected and respected in the in-state so recruiting wouldn't damper that much. I believe that he is bound for a major program HC within 10 years.

Only UAB. I'd have a lot of interest in is Jordan Howard the RB, could be a great H-back.
