Mullen received some criticism for calling a very slow, methodical drive to score a late TD, leaving only :15 on the clock, meaning that even in the event of a successful onsides kick recovery MSU would still need a miracle TD to win.

Calling a more aggressive, faster drive would have increased MSU's chances of winning slightly, however it also would have increased the chance of MSU not scoring at all and losing 25-13 (or worse).

People criticized him of trying to "pretty up" a loss rather than playing to win, however if that was indeed his strategy is may work out long run.

I get the feeling that a 25-13 final would have resulted in MSU falling farther than fourth.

MUFFIN MAN META GAME.

I don't think the extra score mattered. People that watched the game saw it all happen. I'm sure the committee was watching.

I agree and thought that was what he was doing as I watched that last drive. The playoff has changed things, that's for sure.

I believe there is an element of truth to this. In fact, for the entire game Gary Danielson said Dan was going to play at lightning speed, but in fact MSU played relatively slow and methodical all game.

Thead bookmarked for when a conference champion gets in over MSU. The committee has already said they are going to give conference champions the nod over schools like MSU who won't even play in one.

Yeah, uh, that isn't what happened.

In what world does it make sense that an increased chance in not scoring at all increases the chance of winning, which requires scoring twice?

Bama logic?
