No idea they are so close. Just an hour and a half. Like Houston and College Station in distance.

Welcome to the SEC (plus 2).

Hasn't Mississippi State played Alabama more times than any other SEC school. I know the numbers in the 90's

Yes. Travel to other schools could be pretty tough until the 50's. Scheduling that one was a no-brainer.

Alabama and Mississippi State geographically saying are the two closest campuses to one another in the SEC.

Aren't they like 42mi apart. Figure they'd be rivals or hate each other the most. Do the fans hate each other??

Roughly 85 miles.

There's a rivalry of sorts between Alabama and State, but I'd say it's one born strictly of habit; we have been playing the series a very long time, after all.

As far as hatred? Not really. I've always gotten along very well with State fans. Personally I like State and their fans. The fact that they hired Sly helped (and not for the reasons you might think; I really wish he'd found success there)

Jerry Clower used to tell a funny story about when he played at Mississippi State that Alabama had an actual elephant as a mascot and they would walk it out on our field to relieve himself. He said a Mississippi State running back missed getting the end zone because a massive pile of elephant poop tripped him up.

I think we stay in Columbus on Friday nights so that seems reasonable.

Alamite, circa the 1940s. Use of a live mascot was discontinued due to the expense (and inherent danger) of using an actual elephant.

Again, the whole "poor" thing.

Fun fact: Mississippi State has beaten Alabama twice as many times as Ole Miss.

Fitting, given that State and 'Bama have met nearly twice as frequently.

Fun Fact: Vaught and Bryant rarely played and when they did, it was counted as non-conference.

Also true.

Another fun fact: Only two SEC coaches ever held a winning record over Vaught; Bryant and Robert Neyland.

Yes, the Relax Inn in Centreville, Big Dick's Halfway Inn in Gordo, or the Step Back Inn in Reform would have been better choices.
