I honestly cannot stand that guy.

I love his analysis, but his whiney voice gets on my nerves every now and then.

Only his voice tones are bothersome. I think he's impartial, professional, and always brings relevant talking points.
I for one very much dig listening to him, because he keeps me honest with what I'm seeing regardless of it being good or bad.

He aggravates me. He asks dumb questions during games. Like in the 2009 SEC Championship game, asking if a kick that deflected off the upright was returnable. I mean, really? Stopping play when a RB lowers his head and marking him down at that spot. ugh.
eta- and while sometimes he is honest. Sometimes he is just wrong and repeats it over and over, like when a call is being reviewed, and it's obvious he got it wrong.

Smartest analyst in College Football....
But he doesn't know when to shut up. He'll say 10 words when 5 will do. He'll talk over great moments and offer his opinion when the moment doesn't really call for it.
Example: Cody blocks the FG to beat UT in 2009. Amazing scene and the crowd is going crazy. Danielson brings up Cody taking off his helmet before the play was over. He continues to harp on it as Cody, who is full of emotions, walks to the lockerroom with the whole stadium chanting his name. Danielson just vomits over the moment.
Danielson usually isn't as bad as most fans say he is, but against Florida he was just insufferable. Kind of becoming college football's version of Johnny Miller.

What's frustrating about that is Verne's call of that moment was so good.
"Blocked again! Cody again!" was way better than Eli's call where they just kind of yelled over each other.

I think he is one of the better in-game analysts in college football right now. I think he does his homework and knows what he is talking about. I think he is impartial too, except for like anyone he can sometimes try to make the narrative fit some of his preconceived notions about teams (I think he does this a lot less than a lot of others though). Of course he isn't perfect, but he is as good as anyone else in the college game I can think of.

Kind of like when he still thought Bradley was starting lol.
The UF game was bad and the LSU game last year was just as bad. Saying Fowler should be penalized for blowing up the LSU corner.
He adds little value IMO. He is ok sometimes.

I couldn't disagree more. I think he's an excellent analyst who can break down the play to where someone that hasn't watched football before could basically understand.

He's the best analyst in all of football professional or college. I can see how some people have a dig with him but it's all good. He knows the game of football.

His weekly segment on Finebaum is about the only redeeming quality of that show.

He's pretty good. I never get annoyed by announcers. They DGAF who wins, they aren't in the tank . . though sometimes they go overboard (thinking Andre Ware on the Sims/Coker).

There used to be a 2 1/2 video of that game titled Gary and Verne's Misadventures. It was taken down. The entire length of it was their screw ups in that game. That's a lot of 5 second or so calls.

I'll definitely agree... he gets caught up seeing a trend in a game and constantly points it out. Once or twice is enough, Gary.

Looks like CBS got the video yanked.. this is where it was originally posted...
deadspin - Verne and Gary's Not so Excellent Adventure
The announcing in the 2009 SEC CG was foreshadowed at the opening kickoff LINK

He's great at Xs and Os, he just goes from explaining things to giving an opinion too much. And he's always right. Period.
He brought it up in the Florida game again. Called it something like "Cody takes off his helmet early game." Seriously man, let it freaking go.

He's ok. He was really annoying during the Florida game. He kept going on and on about Hargreaves. The guy got burned all day and limped off the field about 10 times during the game. The kid might be good, but I wouldn't put tape in of that game to show scouts.

Like most have said X's and O's are good but opinion is off the charts.
Everyone thinks Verne is a BAMA homer.

I like him. Verne offers nothing in the way of analysis.
