I can confidently say that none of your DT's would crack the two deep of Eulls/Jones/Jones/James at state, what does your DE situation look like? Obviously you don't have a Preston Smith, but then again, no SEC team has ever had a DE win DL of the week in 3 consecutive weeks.

I have to admit I'm rather ignorant on your LB roster as well. I know none would start, but are any of the caliber to make second team at State?

In light of these issues, how do you intend to stop the Dak and Robinson run game, let alone the diamond read option, with your front seven?

A State team that gave up over 100 yards rushing to UAB, 500 plus total yards has 14 better players. LSU is a team that gives up 33% fewer points, fewer yards, and has better athletes but couldn't place one player on the two deep

I don't get it either. UAB hangs 34 on that defense, but they are all world and LSU has no players that would play on their front.

LSU fans, what are your thoughts on the defensive front issues in the 1st half of the Wisconsin game?

On second viewing, I honestly didn't think as much of it. While Wisconsin has a big O Line, it was the motion and diversity of their run game that was killing the D. Guys kept blowing assignments and getting out of lanes in the first half. They were passive. Reactive.

In the second half they adjusted and got it together. I know Gordon wasn't able to go and that was a huge blow to the Gadgets, but all 3 of their backs had success in the first half. No one did anything after Gordon's one run in the 2nd.

And in the games since- the discipline has been there and D has been more aggressive. Even if the competition hasn't been any good, missed assignments and blown reads still happen if real improvement isn't taking place.

So, not worried. While the State D has been getting torched by UAB and the school that just witnessed the biggest football game in the history of Mobile, AL, ours has been quietly improving and doing their jobs. That's what good teams do against cupcakes.

I know I shouldn't bump this but I have to say I was thinking of this thread before, during and after the game.

Through all the noise and hilarity of the Grind last week, this substantive thread may have gotten buried.

Would be interesting to hear people's thoughts on our defensive front now.

Question: would Travonte Valentine have made a difference in run D?

Well it was a horrible flame, but he was right about the DT's. We're counting on a true sophomore and true freshman to bottle up the middle.
