"This was the biggest game in the history of Mobile, Alabama," said Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen. "Mississippi State is plastered as the biggest game in the history of this city and it was won by Mississippi State University. Not Auburn, not Alabama - Mississippi State."
I think it is great that Miss St can claim winning the biggest game in Mobile History. Too bad he can not make that claim in any of the Cities/Towns in his own State.

On a more serious note; Joey Jones is the USA coach and when I lived in Mobile in the early 80s, he was the local hero playing for Alabama in the late 70s/early 80s. Pretty sure he was on at least one NC team. Short little receiver, tough as nails and wore #4 if IRC.

Why be all defensive about it? Strike a nerve or something?.

The funniest thing is he's not even close to being right.
Other games in Mobile
- Alabama played a game there every year in the 50s and 60s
- Bryant's first game as Alabama coach was against LSU in 1958 - lost 13-3 as well as 1953
- Alabama played Southern Miss down there in the 60's I think, USM also played A&M there
So yea - solid work Muffin.

Yea - he was. Done a good job at South. Was doing a good job at Birmingham Southern until they decided to move the program to DIII.
Has a unique talent for starting programs from scratch it appears.

Man some butt hurt people in this thread.
1- was it a history setting sellout for usa? Yes. Mullen 1... but hurts 0
2- was it the biggest crowd... according to what I posted from the bama paper... yes. They removed the signage that allowed 8k more seats. Mullen 2 ... but hurts 0
3- Mullen willing to do what bama and auburn coaches and fans laugh at doing, giving msu a huge in with recruits and their families. Mullen 3.... butthurts 0
Dan just making audible truths.

Agree - this guarantees State will start edging out Troy and USA for those coveted Third Tier Mobile kids.

This really might be the most absolutely bizarre, confusing, and hilarious attempt at smack talk in the history of sports.

quote:Hell, when Alabama played LSU there in 1958 (Bryant's first game as Tide head coach), I believe LSU was preseason ranked #3...I guess that would make it bigger.
quote:Alabama played one game a year there in the 50s and 60s. Every one of these games would still be a bigger game than State vs USA.
