What if Clemson really isn't very good? UGA maybe now overhyped?

I'll be surprised if we go to Columbia and run all over South Carolina. I'm not sure what we've proven yet except that Gurley is a great back. But assuming Carolina throws everything into stopping the run, there's not much to inspire confidence in Mason as a threat. Now maybe he emerges and makes some big throws...and that opens things up...but doesn't feel like a proven commodity to me.
Also have to wonder if Clemson's offense made our defense look better than it was. Their offensive line was very suspect going into the game and they had no serious running threat due to injuries and suspensions.
Call me skeptical but there have got to be a few of you out there who aren't expecting an easy UGA win at SC...

I think most of us have a wait and see attitude. We are all glad that Pruitt doesn't seem to be letting the defense rest on the 2nd half of the Clemson game if interviews are to be believed.
I think we want all those guys thinking they still suck and need to work harder.

Typical Lucius Clay and his negadawg trolling.
And I haven't seen a single post in here talking about an easy win in Cola. Everyone thinks it's still going to be a tough game.

I think most of us think we played great in the second half. I don't care who you're playing but especially against a big 5 opponent out gaining someone 346-15 is absurd. The team obviously has things we need to work on and I think everybody here knows that. Just because the media is blowing us right now, doesn't mean that anybody here thinks we have done anything of importance.

Won't be an easy win at all. It'll be a four quarter war against a desperate USC team on their home field.

Playing in Columbia with Spurrier walking the sideline scares the shite outta me. They will be ready. It'll be interesting to see how SC looks against ECU. If they walk all over them, then those concerns are for good reason. If they struggle, maybe they're really that bad. The thing about Mason is, he didn't HAVE to throw the ball. He didn't do anything to lose the game. Question is, if somebody loads the box and stops the run, can Mason win the game on his own? We'll find out.

Has Richt ever "blown out" South Carolina?
It'll be a fight.

31-7 in 2003, I think. That's as much of a blowout as we have gotten against them.

UGA has gotten a lot of hype, but there weren't very many impressive teams last weekend and somebody had to get the hype. Most college teams aren't "very good" at the start of the season, too many young inexperienced players still learning the game.

Up voted every poster except op...not sure what is going on...actual football being played seems to have raised collective iq of this board exponentially.

Not a true blowout, but we shut them out in Columbia in 2006 (18-0).

FWIW, Spurrier wasn't coaching the '03 squad. I guess the 18-0 shutout was the most solid victory we've had against the OBC.

I agree with the OP.
I think we should start making the Kool-aid, but we shouldn't start drinking it just yet.
Also, Clemson looked decent in the 1st half, but they did have atleast a couple of dropped passes that woulda been for a 1st down that ended up killing the drive.
In the 2nd half, I think it became obvious that their qb wasn't going to beat us w/ the deep ball, so we were able to keep everything up near the line of scrimmage.
Finally, I'm not sold on Mason just yet. Yes he can be a game manager, but when the going gets tough and we need HIM, not Gurley, not Mitchell, but Mason to step up and win us the big game vs a top school (like sec champion ship game, or auburn, florida, etc), I'm just not 100% certain he can do it for us.
I feel his strength is the short to medium passes, but if the opposing team is able to load up the box and stop our running attack (it will be tough to do it, but if they do), then I'm going to start worrying a lot more if Mason can lead us to victory. But other than that, I think we can expect him to atleast reproduce the Clemson game, that is make the throws to move the chains, set up our run game, and not make any turnovers.

I hear ya. Defenses are going to load the box and challenge Mason to beat them in man to man coverage and with 2 of our best receivers out I'm not overly optimistic about the passing game.
I do think our defense grew up a lot in the 2nd half vs Clemson. How much we will find out when we play SC in Columbia. We might need special earplugs to filter the techno-weiny music.

Well, Mason hasn't shown us he can step up when the chips are down, but he hasn't shown us he can't either. It's a little unfair for him to be doubted so early.

Not saying he'll do it again, but he brought us back after being down three scores against Tech. I know Bobby Dodd ain't Williams Brice, but it's something.

USCe has never been an,easy win for us. They will play like playoff contenders against us, if only to frick it up for us. Spurrier must have been assaulted by a dawg player, coach, or fan once long ago. His hate runs deep for us, USCe, UF, and UT worry me in that order, UCSe most of all, especially in Bryce-Williams, we don't play great there for some reason. This is the SEC, don't forget!
On the other side of that coin, I thought we played good D in the first half, DB's were stuck on their guys like glue, Just some real good throws at times. Tackling was very solid, Herrera will be a beast this year (12 tackles, 3.5 TFL and 2 sacks), I always thought he was better than Ramik anyways.
If we stay humble and hustle every game, we can be special, undefeated will be a tall order, but we can possibly do it. Luckily we can frick up once as long is not to an unbeaten east team.

Clemson's going to kick the shite out of everybody in the ACC accept FSU.
The Dawgs beat a pretty good team and they are going to smear the gameShmucks. Yes, credit me with that nickname.
The Dawgs are going to win the National Championship..so MARK GELBART declares on September 3 or whatever the hell the date is tonight.
Yeah!
