Sumlin 100% without question

Sumlin will be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 2015 season, book it.

I'm surprised you would say that about Saban, who had quite a bit of NFL coaching experience, just not at the head level. I don't think Saban's lack of success (if it is perceived that way) is due to a lack of preparation in his career.
Don't take it the wrong way, it's not a slight to Saban. I feel like Saban likely made a decision try his hand at college and after winning at LSU, wanted to give the NFL a try. I don't think he didn't prepare enough, I just see him differently than someone like Sumlin, who as I understand it has had the NFL as his goal the entire time.
Perhaps Saban did too, I don't have that kind of insight, but to me it seemed more like a next step or looming challenge than his life's goal.

I didn't take it as a slight at all. (I am unusual for a Gump. )
I just think Saban's career has more NFL roots than someone like Spurrier, who I believe is an excellent example of your point. 3-4 years as a defensive coordinator (even at a shithole like the Browns) is a huge difference from having no experience at all.

How were Nick's defenses in Cleveland? Serious question as I don't know.

I think Sumlin would do well in the NFL. Has he ever shown interest?

Cleveland at that time had a rather stout defense. The head coach was Belichek. They weren't great overall, but they did make the playoffs in 94 and their weakness was more offense than defense.

I'll take Mark Richt for $100, Alex

Gus innovate his offense and helped being in this hunh craze. Plus Gus innovated the wildcat which was adopted by nfl teams.
Malzahn is very innovative and is very adept at adapting to change. However, while I wouldn't say Sumlin is more innovative than Malzahn, the wildcat was not Malzahn's innovation. In college, Bill Snyder was running the wildcat at Kansas State back in the late 90's...and then Urban Meyer was doing it at UF before Malzahn came to Arkansas...Malzahn incorporating it with McFadden was brilliant and led to a breakout year for him, but the wildcat existed before his arrival to the college ranks. I also remember Bama running it a time or 2 in the 1999 SEC Championship game against UF with Freddie Milons...
As for the NFL, Minnesota had some direct snap plays designed for David Palmer back in the 90's as well...

I agree with you CrimsonLegend, I believe Sumlin will be courted for sure , Rather he goes or not is a different question, He like Saban at Bama has it very good where he's at.

And the famous two point conversion when we tied Tennessee in 1993 was essentially Palmer in the wildcat, racing for the corner.

This thread needs focus.
If we are talking "better NFL coach", there is a discussion between the two.
If we are talking "better college coach", there is no doubt. Gus has been a head coach for TWO years and won TWO conference championships. (one of those in the same division as sumlin).
There is no debate. There is no opinion. The results are in. At the college level, Gus is kicking sumlin's fanny.

I remember that game...but I'd forgotten 'bout it when I posted...

It would be hilarious to watch Leslie coach in the National Football League, so him.
Would be insane.

BS...while I think Malzahn is a great coach and may prove to be a better coach in the future, two years is not enough to go on. If it were, then Larry Coker wouldn't be coaching at UTSA today. In Coker's first 2 years at Miami (his first as a head coach anywhere), the Canes appeared in 2 BCS championship games, winning one of 'em, while also winning 2 Big East championships...and now he's almost completely off the coaching radar...

I've never seen a fanbase as cocky as A&M with absolutely nothing to show for it.
