So did Y.A. Tittle. Not sure you can compare NFL offenses and QBs of the 1950s and 1960s to today's league and players. It was not only harder to play quarterback then, it was significantly more difficult. That said, I wouldn't put Joe Willie or Bart Starr on our Mt. Rushmore, either.

Bama could top that two times over

ou're not even trying to do an honest comparison if you're going to do this:
quote:
Pistol Pete Maravich- NBA Hall of Fame- 5 time NBA All star
Barkley- HoF but no championships
Barkley won an MVP and is an 11x All Star. And Maravich didn't win a championship either.
Agreed.
But being the best college player of all time is kind of a trump card.

Shaq isn't even the best basketball player from LSU.

I'll raise you Bob Pettit anyway.
Bob Pettit
-SEC Record for ppg until Pete Maravich
-3x SEC leading scorer
-2x SEC Champion (swept conference his junior year)
-Final Four
-1955 NBA Champion
-11x All-Star
-10x NBA First Team
-2x NBA Scoring Champion
Pistol is the best college basketball player by a wide margin. NBA career suffered from injuries. Barkley is one of the best NBA players ever, but LSU features 3 of the players ranked in the NBA top 50: Shaq, Pistol, and Pettit
Pistol
-NCAA All-Time Scoring leader
--44.2 ppg
-Naismith Winner
-2x Oscar Robertson award winner
-3x All-American
-3x SEC Player of the Year
-5x NBA All-Star
-NBA Scoring Champ

Tennessee has a real Mt. Rushmore, with four Tennesseans winning the popular vote for the Presidency.
Andrew Jackson
Andrew Johnson
James K. Polk
Al Gore
Rand Paul flies to and from Washington through Nashville's airport, so I will count him if he wins as well.

So did Y.A. Tittle.
6 more Interceptions than TDs compared to 47 for Joe.

Absolutely correct, but you can compare them to their peers that played in the same time period.
Y.A. Title had one of the lowest interception rates in the NFL for his era while also being near the top in touchdowns. He was always near the top compared to his competition in Passer Rating.
Joe was an interception machine compared to his peers, but he also aired it out a lot more. It is part of the reason that he is so famous, he was fun to watch. He was never in the top 10 for int %

This sentence structure cracked me up since harder and more difficult have similar meaning.
I would say the skill, specialization, and responsibilities of the QB are far greater today, but the rules definitely are better for your health.

It sounded better in my head. I just meant that it was not only harder, but FAR harder, to play QB in the 50s and 60s.

Which school has the best Mt. Rushmore in the SEC?
For Arkansas I'll go with all coaches.
Broyles
Sutton
Richardson
Holtz
Would Alworth and Ferguson be right behind?

LSU can do it in about 8 different sports. Can Bama say that?
