Why is Missouri in the SEC East?

Why can't they just put Auburn in the East and Missouri in the West?
Geographically it makes sense, and also the SEC can have the possibility of a Bama vs. Auburn SECCG.

Big Daddy Slive wanted his fellow Yankees to have the easiest possible path the the SECCG.
Hence Mizzou + SEC East.

Geographically it would make more sense for Mizzou to play in West division, but makes even more sense for Texas to play in West. Both teams could not go to West, and no current West teams wanted to switch out. IMHO

It drives me frickin crazy that Missouri is in the East. It's embarrassing, really.
I'm hoping at this point we just add an NC and a VA school, and put MO in the West and be done with the madness.

It is an outstanding question. I am very surprised that no one has ever brought this up before.

Divisions are mostly geographic but also balanced for competition.
Look at the NFL or MLB and you'll see geographic oddities here and there too.

That is our SEC academics on full display for everyone. What's the problem?

Because by doing that you're putting either the IB or TSIO @ risk of being eliminated.
Also, I personally don't think the SEC will ever split a state amongst 2 divisions (so no to TN/Vandy nor Aub./Ala. splitting). Besides, you have those in-state rivalry games to keep.

because Auburn fans would secretly miss playing LSU and cry everytime they ate a corndog.

Gumps killed over losing the Iron Bowl. I can't even imagine the massacre that would ensue if they lost the SECCG to Auburn.

Move Mizzou and Vandy to the west, Alabama and Auburn to the east. You're welcome LSU.
