For a guy who claims this is a non-issue and just a simple mistake, you sure have spent a good amount of time looking up sources.
Not big bro behavior, IYAM.

In this case, they absolutely couldn't. This story was in the media back when it happened. The NCAA already knew about it, so it would be stupid -- and probably cause for real sanctions -- to fail to report it.
I question whether the NCAA would have cared, but your thought process is the same as what compliance was thinking, I'm sure.

You are still posting in this non-issue thread?

In all honesty............how does this compare to saban sitting between a recruit and his dad, at a televised basketball game, during a dead period.... where coaches are supposed to have no face to face contact with a recruit?

There are two forms of hacking, one is to take over an entire site. The other was page hacking which is what occurred here.
You create a page such as
s://rivals.yahoo.com/Auburn/football/recruiting/rankings/2014
If you change the last number to 2013 or 2015, if the page is there but not published you may be able to see it.
Basically Auburn numbered their commitments and they believed RE would be one of them. Someone changed the number and with the speed of the internet it was out there.
I agree that you've described exactly what happened. My only issue is that is in no way a hack.
They created a page on the site. The fact that they didn't have a link to the URL doesn't mean it wasn't public. It was publicly available the minute they put it up without any security.
It is a BS violation and the frickup was done by the IT guy (instead of Athletic dept) who decided to take the lazy option to fast updating, but it was not a media hack and saying otherwise is just a plain out lie.

Well since the definition of hack nowadays includes workarounds with technology, yes it was. Hacking isnt just illegally entering someone else's network.

Just like the big HAHa deal. Just a secondary.

While you are correct that the Clinton Dix violation is far more serious than the Evans one I think the point the OP is making is the potential dishonesty (if dishonesty is in fact an issue) of Auburn in making a lame excuse for the minor violation looks bad. Juxtapose that with how honest Alabama was with pointing out and coming clean on the more serious Clinton Dix violation and you can clearly see which athletic department owns up to its mistakes and which one doesn't.

Well, no, the NCAA probably doesn't -- and definitely shouldn't -- care. It's an extremely minor violation. But they've successfully set up a system where schools are scared into revealing every little thing for fear that the punishment will be worse if they don't confess. It's a pretty effective, if somewhat scuzzy, system. I should know...I've used it on more than one kid in my time.

turns out it was the guy who hacked DJ Fluker's twitter. authorities havent released the name yet but it is believed to be either Luther Davis or John Phillips

Yes. The word "hack" implies that some devious outside source was responsible. Why not just admit a simple mistake was made and quit acting like you are incapable of ever doing anything wrong? It amounts to nothing in the scheme of things so I don't know why it's that hard to admit a mistake.

because they love deflecting. that's why this stupid thread has made it to 6 pages. they love that shite, and they do a fine job of echoing the company line.
