The team that Vanderbilt's current situation is most similar to and why that team was underestimated last year (from the perspective of a former fan of the other team)

Hello Matt. You lost a bunch of starters and the best WR in your program's history. You will be worse. Cutcliffe sucks at life

Fail. i didn't read one mention of your running game.
that is where vandy found success last season.

If you can't duplicate that success on the ground, then you can't duplicate that success.

Win one natty in baseball and all of a sudden your shlong is the biggest in the tool kit.

But seriously-

You lost a shite ton of starters, your GOAT head coach, and your one play maker. Say hello to winless in SEC play for me

I clicked on the link before I realized this post was probably just advertising for the OP's blog. Luckily, it was "Down for Maintenance."

Right now, Vandy is rebuilding. There's no way around that fact. Barring a miracle, Vandy is going to struggle this year. Worst case scenario, they collapse completely, sending the team into disarray to the point that they lose to Kentucky and barely beat UT.

I'm sorry I clicked.

I see that basically any goober can submit and have an article published on that SBNation garbage site. It's a repackaged BR, no?

They lost maybe the best Offensive Tackle they've maybe ever had. I think, that will REALLY hurt them, because normally it hurts even the most talented teams. Vandy will struggle to replace him.

That and the coaching turnover, just lead me to believe that they won't be quite as good this year.

Not that they'll be terrible. Just not as good.
