I went to Saw's last year when I was in town for the SEC baseball tourney, it was amazing. Deserves every bit of hype it gets.

Yeah sucks it's Paula Deen's rankings, though it is just her magazine and I doubt she had much input. Saw's is the best Q in Birmingham. The whole country? Doubtful, but proud to have them in Birmingham.

I have heard real Georgia accents much more distinctive (or as you would say, 'exaggerated') than hers, but as time has marched on regionally identifiable accents are starting to fade due to more exposure to other parts of the country via cable and satellite TV - our kids world is much smaller than ours was at their age.

Granted that I'm a "older mature lady" I totally agree that B'ham is on the upswing, my kids 26 and 27 even say so..
I was around during "The Cobblestone" era on Morris Ave...a extremely mini Bourbon Street (5 or 6 bars within walking distance) that was fun---And safe!!!
Love The Uptown district now.. The Southern Kitchen has great food, great atmosphere..
Enjoyed hearing Michael Warren playing at a Sunday Brunch a couple of weeks ago ...
