New Orleans is a shithole.

No reason to risk getting carjacked if we’re not in the CFP.
Imagine being this much of a pussy scared of the big city

I’ll never understand the GOP’s never-ending obsession with keeping marijuana criminalized, especially in states like TX and LA.

Doing otherwise would rob the state of their prison slave labor
Depends on the retirement age when I get there but hopefully no more than 30 years

You had to wait to buy that? Find a different career or a different location.
We did both. Hence buying the house and now having a kid. Thanks for your advice gramps.
quote:

I understand it. You didn't want to rent with a baby, because that was not "good enough"...
The prospect of having a kid was not even on our minds because we simply could not afford it. If we couldn’t afford a house we couldn’t afford a kid.

And no it wouldn’t be “good enough” for the kid. I truly feel sorry for kids raised in an apartment.

Well she didn’t do it by herself now did she??

And it’s a cookie cutter 1400sqft - nothing to brag about to friends at all
Where did I say anything about impressing friends? What the frick is your problem?

My wife and I didn’t want to have kids when we rented. We got pregnant two years after buying a house. I’m not sure why this is impossible to wrap your head around.
Where did I ever say anything about men getting pregnant?

Are you under the impression I’m a Democrat?
quote:

How so? I've rented and I've owned. Owning is an "investment" and pays dividends later on and the smartest thing one can do, but payment/taxes/maintenance are more short term (costs are more and therefore less affordable) than renting.
We rented because we could not afford to own and could not afford a child. Now we can actually afford to own and it made the prospect of having a kid much more feasible: space for a proper nursery, a yard to play in, and not sharing walls/ceilings/floors with neighbors who’d make noise and disturb a baby.

quote:

I'd prefer lots of things. But I do what I have to do. Seems to me that you put your wants of having the home you "wanted" over having a family. Self-centered.
I wasn’t going to bring a child into this world if I couldn’t provide them proper shelter that I’d see fit for my own child. We have different perspectives of what makes someone self-centered.
quote:

Is there something wrong with having a child and renting?

Yes, affordability.
quote:

Is renting harmful for the child?

Would you prefer to raise a child in a home or an apartment? Stupid question.
quote:

Would those that "can still have babies" be less self-centered then? Having and raising kids requires sacrifice. I don't see many young folks willing to do that.

My wife and I are expecting a child soon now that we were able to buy a house. We never planned on having kids before we could afford to own a home. It absolutely matters.

You think men can get pregnant

No I don't. And what does this have to do with home prices? Weird response bro.

my sister in law and her fiance are putting an offer on a 10 year old 1350 sqft house thats listed for 225k. they're first time buyers.

i'd hate be a first time buyer in this market.
That sounds about right. We bought a 1450sqft in 2023 for $245k and "bought down" to a 5.99% rate.

My buddy who bought in 2016 likes to bitch about his note every once in a while and it makes his neck look really strangleable

Stop the federal gov't from importing millions of illegals who they then subsidize or outright pay for their housing. Fannie Mae and orgs under blackrock and blackstone who rent from their staggering inventory ultimately facilitate a large portion of this for the Marxist feds.
Link? Would love to read about this.

ETA: ah the classic downvote in lieu of a response when obvious bullshite is questioned

- Eliminate property taxes for primary residences

Good idea in theory but opens a huge can of worms with education funding
quote:

- Increase property taxes for secondary residences (esp SFHs)

Great start, but should go even further and limit corporations' SFH portfolios and ban foreign companies altogether
quote:

- Increase subsidies for first-time home buyers

This is already being done to an extent, but there could certainly be more help when it comes to PMI since I'd imagine a large majority of first time buyers aren't putting 20% down.
