He just had an interview with SVP and explained his pick, but here is the ESPN insider article. Apologies to those without a sub to see 2-10. If someone does have a sub and could list them, I will edit OP.

For the record, his top surprise team last year was FSU.

Phil Steele

Great, more ammo for the dumbfricks on here to say that "UGA always thinks they're preseason champs yadda yadda blah blah blah"

I think UGA is going to be very very good this year. I'm glad our game is in the Cock Pit and early in the season before they have time to completely gel.

Does he still say how LSU and Auburn were one of his surprise teams listed in 2003 and 2004?

UGA is one of those rare teams that when they lose a great QB, that are almost always able to replace him with a nice QB right away. So it's a nice pick by Steele and I know UGA fans are excited about Hudson Mason (sp).

Florida will be much improved IMO and USC will still be very good. The east will be a battle between those three. Mizzou will fall a lot just this year as they adjust to the losses of Franklin, Josey, Sam, DGB, etc. Then in 2015, Mizzou will get things back on track.

Jeremy Pruitt's attitude on defense, and keep in mind he has coached on the past three national championship teams (Alabama 2011 and 2012, Florida State 2013) and could make it four in a row here.

UGA = South Carolina state champions.

I guess if you consider it a surprise every year they win 8-10 games.

Steele is a numbers guy. No instinct at all. He looks purely at the easiest schedule for the best teams. For years, that meant him picking Oklahoma and Florida State, and of course Alabama.

Doesn't mean he is smart, just that he goes the safe route and occasionally gets a nut.
