This. Greasing aldermen is a way of life out here. Given my career, I'm pretty close to a lot of these deals.

The last three governors went to jail.

Because their judicial system wasn't corrupt enough to let them off the hook.

Thank Goodness for Mississippi. Otherwise my state would be the best of the worst in many more categories.

I'm guessing the Ford family is helping TN, at least in the West.

I would still Vote Bama number one for all the PAC to PAC bullshite, etc. But only having one of last three Governors indicted so far I guess they get a break. But also the fact that the last big fed investigation with 1000's of hours of tape phone calls and plea deals didn't get any real convictions either somehow works in their favor in this study, which is bizarre. It is the OJ Simpson of state corruption cases. They were guilty as hell and everyone knows it. I guess is the wiretap is legit you must acquit in bama.

UK and Florida round out the top ten! Take that Georgia!

Is that supposed to be a compliment or insult?

Flawed study. Analyzing the last 15 years would have produced a more accurate result.

True and well-seeded corruption doesn't get caught and is much more previlent in many other states.

Yep, you pretty much nailed it. All governments are corrupt by their nature, and Mississippi is no different. Decent people anywhere avoid public office.

That makes this is a really fricking dumb way to define most corrupt. The lowest conviction rates are what should be raising red flags.

The big dig should automatically put Mass as #1 on everyone of any corruption list.

Before our county clerk Shelly Ashley Palmertree I would have cried foul - no way that Louisiana isn't #1. But after this debacle I'm thinking we have corruption by design. Even though Ms. Palmertree was obviously ripping off the county to the tune of ~$600K, there was apparently no way to fire her. This went on for years and made the front page of the paper for years, and nobody could do anything. The only way they finally got rid of her was the discovery that her principal residence was in another county.

I'm sorry, but the list is bullshite if Illinois isn't #1. It's without question the most corrupt state.

Not to mention the mayors, senators, and Obama himself. It's not even feasible that Illinios isn't the most corrupt state. There's a decent chance it's more corrupt than every other state combined.

The paper explains that construction spending, especially on big infrastructure projects, is particularly susceptible to corruption because the quality of large, nonstandard projects are difficult for the public to gauge, while the industry is dominated by a few monopolistic firms.

Boh Bros just added a few years to all ongoing projects.

No Georgia? List is suspect. I'd expect someone in this state paid them off to keep GA off that list.

Deal isn't clean, but he isn't 1/4 as slimy as Reed. There is no shower in the universe that could get that "man" clean.

Kind of my point. If everyone is corrupt, who is going to do the arresting and prosecuting? We have a very aggressive State Auditor and he is very serious about going after government money that is misappropriated.
