There was a run on the Krispy Kreme and they never fully recovered from it?

Their ineptitude at hiring a good football coach. Getting rid of Fulmer was a mistake.

No. Fulmer without Cutcliffe was no better than what we've had since. Probably worse honestly. His last few classes were absolutely critical.

How so? Cut left y'all in '99. Until '08 y'all were always pretty damn good.

1. Phil Fulmer falling asleep at the wheel when VOLS were rolling
2. Mike Hamilton was one of the most incompetent ADs in the country.
3. Replacing Fulmer with Lane Kiffin who would bolt only a year later, leaving the roster in shambles.
4. Hamilton makes the knee-jerk hiring of Derek fricking Dooley 3 weeks before NSD instead of just having an interim HC for one season.
5. Dooley becomes the worst coach in UT history and leaves the roster in even worse shape than Kiffin because of subpar recruiting and sets VOLS back even further.

Tennessee underachieved greatly from 1999 to 2005. Those 2002-2005 teams were fricking pathetic for the amount of talent they had.
Cut came back in 06 and 07 and UT had some success. Leaves again in 2008 and the offense was historically bad.
Fulmer deserved all he got. No coach should be able to survive 10 years without winning anything of consequence.

We took Phil's recruiting heart when we took Oher away from him. I don't think I've ever seen a coach more butthurt about losing a player than Fulmer was with that. He was the reason we got fricking investigated.

They shouldn't have fired Fulmer. They should've brought someone onto his staff to help bolster recruitment and left it at that.

We were elite in 1999. Probably the most talented roster in the country outside of Miami. We slowly got worse each year until Cut returned as OC in '06 & '07 (won 9 and 10 games.) Cut leaves in 2008 and we go 5-7.

An increase of overall SEC exposure cut into Tenns exposure advantage as a helmet program.

Saban crushed their will in 2007.

1-11 against UGA and uf during that time I believe.
