Gus was an assistant. That shite doesn't count.

Chizik was awful without him, and he turned around a 3-9 team in his first year, so it does in this case.

In that case I'd take Kirby Smart over Gus because he has more championships, right?

Saban has won big before without Smart.

Chizik went 8-28 without Malzahn. Keep giving him all the credit though.

Why are you desperately trying to validate this shitty thread?

I'm not.
Why are y'all trying to invalidate the Gus Bus?

Because most of us feel that Auburn fans are not qualified to criticize LSU's coaching staff.

You're trying to give Gus credit for a championship when he wasn't even the head coach! You're the only one stretching here.

Plus, the only thing Gus gets credit for last season is ruining the streak.

Just curious, but can any current coach (besides Les) SEC or otherwise say they have a 9 year regular season undefeated streak against OOC teams? Can any coach say that all time even?

Back to the original ?, Les Miles is a damn good coach. He's posted double digit win seasons 7 of his 9 seasons playing in the toughest division of the toughest conference in CFB.

Don't think he's good? If for some reason he left LSU, how long do you think he'd be unemployed?

Some of your statements are very biased or leave out important info...

quote:

2005: 11-2 with a home loss to an average UT team. Won the west in year 1, credit is due there. Then got shellacked by UGA in the title game. Whooped miami in the peach bowl.

I'll start here. The Katrina season. You may remember that. The Tennessee loss, yes after we were up 21-0 at half time, was an emotional first home game back after Katrina on a Monday night no less, while the campus was still in upheaval and players were living with relatives. I was at this game and the first half was so intense, crowd was as loud as ever. Funny how this game is still hung over Miles' head by some.

Yes it may be an excuse but LSU had no bye week that year because of Katrina and at the point of the SECCG had played more games in a row without a week off than anyone in the country.

quote:

2007: 12-2 with losses to an average UK team and a bad arkansas team. Hung on to win the SEC against an average UT team, and played for (and won) the natty despite near miraculous odds.

Lol dude, our back-up QB started and won that game due to injury. Yes it was a miraculous season, but most Championship years are.

So basically what you listed was Seven 10-win seasons, Five 11-win seasons, Two 12-win seasons, a 13-win season. Two NCG appearances. 1 NC.

the first saints game after Katrina against the falcons was electric and one of the most intense atmospheres probably in the last decade. So which is it...did coming back to LA after katrina deflate your teams or did it provide strength and support? Can't have it both ways.

I remember watching that game. Not having a bye week would be a valid excuse if you were getting gashed in the 4th quarter like UGA was against bama a few years ago. It's NOT a valid excuse for your DBs getting lulled to sleep on shockely pump fakes and him running circles around your defense. I believe the last TD of the game was a pick 6 from your QB as well. That has nothing to do with bye weeks.

No, most championship seasons require a bit of good fortune. Most championship seasons don't see a team lose 2 games to average to below average teams, including 1 in the last regular season game, and need the top 2 teams to lose on teh last weekend and jump from 7 to 2 all in one day. That's not normal.

And as I said several hours ago, I've given credit where it's due. 2011 was maybe the best team in LSu history, 2006 was a beast, and 2005 was tremendous considering it was Miles's first year.

The Saints return to the Dome was a year later. Not DURING the clean up and recovery effort, while players families themselves were refugees. Not even a valid comparison. And it's ironic that an Auburn fan is talking about lucking into a NCG. Like I said, thanks for pointing out how much success LSU has had. Good to see it on paper.

Your last second field goal National Championship team was nothing special by a long shot. Miles has been one of the only consistent coaches in the SEC!!!!

MF'n this! Not only was the game in a newly rebuilt Dome a year later, the team had a new future Super Bowl winning QB under the helm along with a brand new future Super Bowl winning Head Coach. Yes, but other than mostly that and some other completely different stuff, his comparison was completely spot on apples to apples!
