Let me get this straight. According to the rant, there is little question about who #1 and #2 are. There isn't much argument about numbers 11-14. And all of the remaining 7 teams should be ranked 3rd or 4th. There are no 5-10 teams because everyone thinks they should be ranked higher. Meh.
I think the voters actually did a pretty good job, but that wouldn't give everyone something to talk about. UGA is moving up but you have to consider where they've come from. If they continue to win with their remaining schedule, being ranked #3 will take care of itself. Unfortunately, I see at least 4 more losses in your remaining 6 games. As for Arky, I think they've been playing better ball, but their inconsistency all season makes it hard to rank them. Not sure who you move down in order to move them up.
I'm still not sold that MU is the #3 team at the end of the year, but every time Mizzou opens the door for someone else to separate themselves, that someone else loses. So as of this moment, I have no problem with them at 3.

I think they do to some extent or else UGA would be like 9th or so.

I didn't say any one thing was the end all be all. And if you're talking about Mizzou, they're on a 2-3 run.

Yes they are. I can't remember where I voted them. Let me check.
Here was my vote for top 6:
1. Florida 2. Kentucky 3. Missouri 4. Tennessee 5. Georgia 6. Ole Miss
At least I have you guys in front of Ole Miss.

One could fairly ask you "why" in so far as the wins and losses on each team's resume count just as much on your W-L record if they happened just now as if they happened two months ago. Personally I don't see "week 7 power ranking" and "who had the best week this past week" to mean the same thing at all. In my mind a power ranking is how teams' overall bodies of work stack up. I know Kentucky would be none too pleased if their win over Louisville wasn't supposed to matter anymore because it happened a long while ago and if instead the fact they went 1-1 last week should be the only emphasis, and so on. You may disagree and want all the focus to be on recent trends, but that stance is no more or less valid than mine in terms of what a "power ranking" should be. The subjectivity of it is part of what makes it fun for people.

Its great to see the passion injection though. At the start of the year when they beat us, the only mantra from Dawg fans I was seeing was "LOL Mizzou must totally suck arse because we COMPLETELY suck arse and you lost to us, now you suck like we do." Whereas now they believe their team is worthy of respect and are fighting for it amongst their conference peers. That's good. That's real good. Next thing you know they'll want to bulldoze the Stegosaurus and get a new arena that SHOWS they are worthy of respect, start finding anything less than yearly postseason bids unacceptable for any UGA coach, etc.

I didn't realize there was an official definition of power ranking. My life is forever changed.
When I rank stuff I do it based on how I think things will finish up when all is said and done.
If I put Auburn football at 14th in the preseason, I'd be a shitty voter. If I put them at 3, people would think I was a shitty voter at the time, but time would have told the truth.

Exactly. I love seeing this too. I wish the entire conference would become more passionate about basketball. It's the 2nd most profitable sport, and there is no excuse for a conference as strong as the SEC to be as bad as we are. Collectively speaking, of course.

As a Bama fan I would like to say that this list and where Bama is ranked is pure crap. No way we should be ranked that high.

And UGA keeps moving up. How close to 14 did they start conference play?

Folks should remember, last year Mizzou finished behind Alabama and Kentucky in the final conference standings, but yet Mizzou received an NCAA tournament invite while those teams ahead of them didn't. Now this year Mizzou is threatening to pull the same shite on Georgia.
Turns out that perhaps we were invited here not to improve the conference's level of play in hoops as some hoped, but instead just to troll the shite out of you on Selection Sunday.
