quote:

"I learned how to be more courageous, "Pettway said. "If I see anything or if I'm around anything bad happening around me, I'm willing to stop it or step forward. I'm willing to be the man that makes a change. I'm willing to help anyone around here — any of my teammates. I learned just to be more positive, be more grateful."

this quote makes me think that DJ was indeed a spectator in the incident who just didnt do anything to stop it. That jives with saban letting him back on the team, if he was not an active participant.

Sounds good, everyone deserves a second chance, and anyone who willingly opposes the idea of giving someone one has some serious reevaluating to do. Hope he comes in and does the right things.

Being on a football scholarship =/= real life

No. No they don't.

I don't know enough facts about what happened to comment on the situation but actions have consequences.

I have a different faith, we'll have to agree to disagree.

No they don't - not every incident is equal nor should every first offense be excused simply because its a first offense.

Not just "does the right things" but becomes a better person as a result of his opportunity.

Again, I disagree. I'm not going to argue over it, just simply say my I believe if you can't forgive people you'll never be forgiven. That isn't directed at you, that's in general. That is what I believe, like I said, we can all agree to disagree.

We don't know what he did to make amends for his actions. But I do know that Saban has VERY little tolerance for nonsense. If he and the University have decided to give him a second chance then great and I am all for it.. Roll Tide!!

everyone does not deserve a second chance. I've said this before, DJ has a lot of work to do to ever earn my, or anyone else's, trust again.

He appears to be doing the right thing , and at least we can all agree that his continuing to be good, is all we can hope for.

Damn straight - if someone hurt/rapped-killed my daughter/wife/sons or a family member I would not forgive nor give them a 2nd chance. I'd probably be on trial myself especially if it was the daughter/wife .

All I know is what has been released and based on that the only thing I know is that I don't have enough information to make the decision in either direction. But when it comes down to do you trust Saban? Saban has all the facts (or at least all that can acquire) and he chose to take a chance on Pettway again.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't even describe what I would do to someone who hurt my daughter.

So I mean no disrespect when I say that in first reading "rapped my daughter", I had this hilarious mental image of someone walking up to my daughter in drooping pants and a cordless microphone, saying "Yo, yo, check this out..."

Thats something I can see happening. No way he's back on the team if it happened any other way

I believe our actions should have consequences, but I also believe in redemption. I feel like a 1 year JUCO exile is an appropriate punishment if he didn't play an active role in the thuggery that occurred last summer.

don't have concrete info...so obviously I could be wrong.
But I thought only one of the players was accused of the assault and Hayes and Pettway were never accused of assault. They were there and obviously in the wrong but neither actually joined in the attack?

All three were involved in the first attack. The second attack, it was just Williams, the other two either sat in the car or off to the side. And Calloway, was after the fact to both incidents.

Pettway was the only one not to admit to anything. The other two gave the story, both were identical and corroborated by the victims.

Yes they do. People like you to be judged with the same judgement you put on others.

The irony is you cheer for a team with a coach who has had more than one second chance and believes in giving them.
