That is pretty much what I remembered reading.
NP, People have been confusing the two incidents in the same night. Pettway did physically attack the first victim, just not the second.

Which coach? What did he do?

I'm on record every time this has come up as being opposed to allowing him back in the university much less giving him a football scholarship. He betrayed the trust of his fellow students resulting in the unprovoked beatings of two people. Even if he just watched, the fact that he allowed it to happen a 2nd time after knowing what happened the 1st time makes him just as culpable IMO.
If "everyone deserves a 2nd chance", why don't we just take back Williams and Hayes too? No, playing football at the University of Alabama is a privilege and these 4 do not deserve a 2nd helping of that privilege. I know CNS knows best and all that but I disagree with him on this matter.

Again, I disagree. I'm not going to argue over it, just simply say my I believe if you can't forgive people you'll never be forgiven. That isn't directed at you, that's in general. That is what I believe, like I said, we can all agree to disagree.
I think that even you understand the difference between forgiveness and having to live with consequences. There are multitudes of people in prisons that have been forgiven by both God and man...but we don't just let them out.

This times 1,000.
IMO, this isn't a football issue. This is a university issue. It is the university's solemn responsibility to do everything it can to protect the sons and daughters of the men and women who send them there. Whether or not Nick Saban wants Pettway to play football is a very distant second in importance to the University doing its job in that regard. If Pettway is ever involved in another crime against a fellow student, someone above the athletic department who approved this should lose their job. Nick Saban has never admitted anyone into the University of Alabama. That isn't his job.
All of you who think Pettway should have gotten another chance...would you feel the same way if your job was riding upon his conduct?

Nick Saban and even the OC he hired Lane Kiffin.
Some of you perfect angels, I really wish would be judged by the same means you judge/treat others.
I'd understand if he did something heinous and not just stupid, but he did not.

Saban? What did he do and when did he get a second chance?

For those in this thread who claim to know what Pettway's role was in the incident, how do you know this? No flame. Im just curious because I dont remember anything specific being released to the public on who did what.

Forgiveness does not mean that one still doesn't have to face the consequences of one's actions. In my opinion, DJP forfeited his right to attend the University of Alabama when he participated in the attack on a fellow student.

police report
quote:
. Williams was the only one actually accused of physical assault when it was all said and done.
2. Pettway and Hayes were present but not "active" participants.
not according to the police report in which both williams and hayes stories were corroborated by the victims. Pettway, said nothing.
They were all involved in the physical attack of the first victim and active participants, and just williams in the second.

there was nothing more reported. That was from Haynes and Williams and corroborated by both victims. this was after the arrest, after interviews with the victims and the players
