Most schools allow facilities to be rented out for parties. The key in this case is who pays for the facilities and/or are all of the costs the same for the student athlete's family as they would be for general population.

I'm quite sure AU's compliance department has cleared this before allowing it. I'm not even sure how this is still being discussed.

I really hope the kid goes to UCLA for two reasons:

1) get him the hell out of the SECW
2) watch both of you guys flame each other about it (though, to be fair, it does seem like it would hurt/bother AU a lot more than it would Bama)

Alan Evans is a former player and probably gets the former player discount bro

Thanks, bro. It still has to be equal to the discount of former players without prospective student athletes being recruited by said school.

Not implying any conspiracy. I said that I'm certain AU compliance made sure it was not a violation before agreeing to the party. I said this shouldn't be discussed any further.

I'm not "conspiracy guy". Like I said, I hope the kid goes UCLA. I think you both are a wild group of fans, but AU considers this kid a "lock". Bama seems to consider him a "hope" (with a few, obvious and predictable exceptions). It would bother AU waaaay more to miss this kid than it would Bama.

I don't get bothered until a LOI is signed and sent in. Then they are AU bound. Till then they are free to choose and go where they wish.

But everyone knows and has for a while, or at least felt very comfortable that Evans will end up at AU. The only real surprise here is why he is waiting so long to make it official.

Plenty of kids do this.

Just like Alabama's latest commitment.

I think there was some real concern regarding MH and FSU. In the end most felt UA would edge them out but it was close. I think Evans even with his interest in UA was/is always been 90% all AU.

they see other guys getting to announce on ESPN...I think this is the only reason why Evans hasnt publicly committed yet

If I was a HS kid and ESPN or ESPNU would have me, I'd definitely do it on national TV

I don't know of any former players trying to rent the facilities for their grandfather's 80th birthday party but I'm sure they would be offered the same deal to avoid a violation

Fair enough but any ranked recruit like him could have ESPN do it any day they wanted. To be honest I would not be surprised he does it at his grandfather's bday party when Gus is there.

I would agree with this from about October/November on. Before October/this season, Auburn basically stood no chance with Evans and had a less than 10% chance of signing him.

I would think his initial lack of interest in AU's program is what is holding him back from committing earlier because it is the trendy idea. Something his parents have explicitly been against

Family pro-AU. Assuming his grandfather is as well, hence why having his birthday bash on campus. Gus in attendance, Evans stands up, grabs the microphone, and wishes his GF happy birthday and tells him he will be playing at AU. GF could not of wished for a better present. How I see it potentially playing out.

This is a reoccurring theme year in and out. Does that mean Auburn and Bama have the best recruiting rivalry?

I hope you are right TideWarrior

I just wish people with Auburn ties/grew up AU fans would actually start coming to Auburn. Before this year, if a recruit said he grew up an AU fan I pretty much concede him to another school

No, not really. Recruits from Auburn High School aren't the typical "locks" to Auburn the college, you see. In other areas of the state? Yes. However, Auburn has only landed John Sullen from there recently, losing out on Dee Finley, Reuben Foster, and so forth.

On the other hand, Alabama typically beats Auburn head-to-head for recruits in the state... Well, I take that back, Gus Malzahn has had no problem taking most of who he wants so far. Anyways, no Alabama fan wants to admit that Auburn beats them out for a recruit. It's just not in their nature (not all of their fanbase is like this, BTW).

I agree with the fact that I think the miss would hurt AU more because I see it as a need for AU more than UA. For UA Evans would be a great addition but LB we have great depth.

In regards to head to head it does not bother me and Evans may be the only true head to head battle between the teams this year. UA never really pushed for Roc until it was to late and Tre never showed any real interest in UA. If AU fans consider them beating UA head to head for those 2 I guess Saban beat Gus head to head for MH, but again MH was never really considering AU even though they offered.

This year seem to be interesting for recruiting. It seems both staffs got who they really wanted from the state except for maybe Evans. The next few years may be a little more intense.

BTW every fan base has those fans.

Auburn isn't like Baton Rouge or Tuscaloosa. It is a small damn town. Really easy to understand why some kids are looking to go somewhere else for college, especially considering a large number of Auburn High Students end up at AU due to parents getting faculty discount
