Sophomore wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham was released from Greene County Jail in Springfield, Mo., early Saturday morning, according to a Cpl. Wilcox.

“(The release) probably means he wasn’t involved with what they thought he was involved in,” Wilcox said in a phone call from the Greene County Jail.

Green-Beckham, a native of Springfield, was initially arrested for distribution or delivering less than five grams of marijuana.

Wilcox said people are held for up to 24 hours in the probable cause holding.

No bond was set for Green-Beckham.

Springfield police and the Missouri football team could not be reached for comment.

From everything I have read he was arrested but not formally charged as would be SOP. The investigation would be completed and then a case file would be turned over to the prosecutor to decide what, if any, formal charges would be filed which is typical of most jurisdictions. LINK

The police can and usually do have some input in a case but ultimately it is the prosecutor's call. Anytime you have an arrest with a number of people in a car it may take some time to sort out who is responsible for what. This story gives one of the more thorough accounts. LINK
