Some of you are pretty smart on this Xs and Os stuff, so did FSU figure it out in the 3rd quarter and put out a blueprint for everyone else to follow or did it work despite running into a tough defense?
After all, if FSU had been stopped on their final drive we'd all be celebrating that drive and Tre's TD as one of the greatest moments in Auburn history.

They stopped the QB runs. Kind of a one or the other deal...

Heard sunseri interview that said they just simplified the defense at halftime and let the players just play. He noted that they had problems figuring out which receiver was eligible and which wasn't with the original plan and against the hurry up they got bitten.

I'd have to go rewatch it but I got the impression that Jernigan enabled their defensive line to really clog the interior so that other players could focus on the perimeter. They have been the only team since MSU waaay back when to be able to do that.

Jernigan went balls deep in the second half. He completely blew up the middle of the field and for some reason we kept running right at him on first down.
I would say our offensive struggles stemmed from a string of poor playcalling and very good defensive line play.

I felt like Marshall wasn't making the right reads at times.

Jernigan and the Edwards kid are real big time players.
We ran at will when Jernigan rested.
Zone read is tough against guys that are true 2 gap players.
Especially if the end gets good depth as opposed to crashing inside.
Edwards has great quicks.

I saw times when Marshall made the incorrect read and times when their d line just blew us up. They have recruited SEC caliber defensive lineman and it showed.

I just thought that FSU played very good gap discipline in the 2nd half. They have size and speed and got coached up some at half.

Fsu had their corners or safeties crashing on a run blitz a lot out of nickel and dime packages. It totally took away Marshall being able to get outside most of the game and particularly in the first half. So Gus had nick run the read up the middle constantly. In the second half nick kept the ball a lot. In hind sight, he should have left it with trre more as tre had a lane on a lot of those plays nick kept it.
But FSU crashing the corners and safeties a lot, especially early made it so nick kept it inside a lot more than normal.
It is also the reason we did not run grant the entire game. Or maybe once, can't remember. And it is why Louis got blown up for a big lose the one time he ran it. Fsu took away the outside runs very effectively except the couple of times nick was able to get outside. And I am pretty sure that was only when he saw no corner or safety near the line.

Marshall had a big time off night on the read option. Give some credit to the fsu D, but nick made A LOT of wrong reads that night.

some credit to FSU's D of course, but i do remember an untimely holding penalty (the only holding penalty i remembered being called, actually) that negated a big play & thwarted an auburn scoring opportunity in the 3rd....things tightened up a bit for awhile after that. oh, and running the wildcat during one series (on 2nd and 4, no less) was more of a self-inflicted wound than anything. those two plays affected the complexion of the offense more than anything IMO....
