Sugar Bowl conundrum: the SEC representative usually doesn't want to be there.

Whether it's Alabama vs. Oklahoma, Alabama vs. Utah, or Florida (and all 7,000 of its bowl ticket-buying fans) vs. Louisville, the Sugar Bowl is a consolation prize for a team that had hoped to be playing for a bigger prize, usually against a team that is conversely thrilled to be going to New Orleans.

Seems like only Bama and Florida don't want to be there.

Arkansas wanted to be there but they smacked in the face even if they don't want to admit it.

that's on the coaches.... Tebow and UF in 2009 had absolutely no problem getting up for Cincy and beating the dog crap out of them.

And I don't really think last night was a case of bama not wanting to be there... they scored first afterall. OU got outstanding QB play and bama turned the ball over.

What's the SEC's record in Sugar Bowls in the BCS era?

I'm standing by.

thats why you have cycles within sports. Teams that do well over a short period of time get spoiled and lose the edge. Other teams long for victory and work harder.

Got Bama behind and then won the game with the speed of their front seven on defense. Bama's oline struggled with the quickness.

I myself loved that Sugar Bowl where an overhyped Notre Dame team lost to LSU

Worst poster on the entire website since 2009. I'll give you one thing though...you've been consistently shitty and being consistent is a good thing right?

I think it's more that SEC opponents show up looking to prove something and have nothing to lose. Bob Stoops was out for blood last night. The SEC has been under his skin based on his comments over the years. Trevor Knight looked like Sam Bradford out there which nobody knew he had in him.

Bama looked like a bunch of robots scared to death of blowing an assignment. Bama simply plays with no emotional highs or lows which works against them in games they have to match another teams intensity.

But the motivation factor of playing an SEC team is very real. There are consequences to one conference getting so much attention.

Yea, we've never won a championship in NOLA... oh wait. We've also won a Sugar Bowl there too recently.

Good job on holding up your end Gumps.
