This thread is so far off base. LSU had a far worse ending

Too bad LSU doesn't get a mulligan

2011 LSU was a much, much better team.

They played a much tougher schedule. I don't know if they were a much better team.
I will tip my hat to you, though - all the pain of just missing out on a title is nothing compared to what you hog fans have gone through. At least nobody can call you "bandwagon fans"...good God, it must be miserable.

All of that is true. LSU had one of the toughest schedules of any BCS contender ever.
This is what makes LSU 2011 different from bam a 2013. 2nd ranked oregon and then a trip to the backwoods of Morgantown, WV in addition to the wear and tear of the SEC regular season. While I do agree Bama is the best team in america this year, nothing can compare to what LSU accomplished in 2011 and having our worst nightmare come true and the success come crashing down after the defeat to Nick Saban and the crimson tide.

There were a lot of great teams in 2011. The 3 best were in the SEC.

Don't EVEN try to compare the 2013 Bama team and their cream puff schedule and mediocre play to that GREAT 2011 LSU team and their murderer's row and absolute dominance. Nice try. But no cigar.

Having a Bama fan understand this helps a little. If only you could get onboard with how unjust it was to beat a team at their home then have them gifted a rematch and every pyschological advantage.

That's a fair analogy. I think Ala. may have been better b/c of QB situation. 2013 Ala. has All-American QB. 2011 LSU QB was.... on the bench! WTF?

There are plenty of differences. Just thought it was an interesting feeling - it's sort of empty.
Yeah, I get your feeling might be kinda sorta similar since you think your team was better but there were a lot more fingers in the eye for the LSU fans in 2011.
They played an all world schedule,
they beat the team given a mulligan on their field,
they saw the same logic ignored in 2003 (worst loss should be penalized) used by the voters to push down their least favored alternative in 2011,
they had to put up with the coach not even trying a new player at QB while his newly returned QB sulked, blamed others, etc in the BCS NCG (after he put up a whopping 30 yards of total passing for the game in the SEC CCG).
why the hell they didn't try Mett instead of letting him rot on the bench in the second half is still beyond me. That game was winnable well into the third quarter.

Oklahoma State, Stanford, USC, Oregon, and probably Boise and WVU were better teams than Arkansas that year. Arkansas was flat unable to stay on the field with LSU or Bama.

More like if Bama had beaten Auburn...
And then the voters decided that Bama had to beat Auburn again to win the title after Bama had won the SEC title while Auburn sat at home.
Then you could begin to compare 2013 Bama with 2011 LSU - nevermind the schedules.

Les Miles quit in that game and it was about the strangest thing I've ever seen. Haven't been much of a fan of his since...
Who punts the ball with just over three minutes left on 4th and 9 down 21 while getting shut out in the last game of the season (which just happened to be the national championship game)??? I couldn't believe it. He just shut down - quit - with no tomorrow for many seniors. No pride or fight - it was bad.

No really comparable. Bama never really dominated this season and only had one signature win against LSU.
The thing about that 2011 LSU squad was that they benefited a lot from turnovers and short fields. Their offense wasn't exactly dominating...they just had a killer defense. LSU and Bama that year were pretty equal.

Good post.
Alabama fans had the goal of a three-peat clearly in their grasp (I mean, let's face it, Bama beats Auburn and chances are win their next two games), something unprecedented in the modern era. Honestly, I think Bama's 2011 squad was better than this years team, but nonetheless, the goal was HUGE and right there for the taking.
People will point to the schedules and say they weren't comparable, but neither is the nature of the two losses. Bama shut LSU down in the second half of the BCSCG, something that hadn't been done all season. LSU had been shut down in the first half against Alabama in November and Arkansas and then UGA in the SECCG (something Bama fans don't seem to acknowledge). It was LSU's offensive line and ultimately unstoppable running game that was winning games up until the BCSCG. LSU's Oline couldn't dominate Bama in the second half as they had every other team that season.
But the way Alabama lost to Auburn was WAY more of a heartbreaker than LSU's loss in the BCSCG. LSU's demise was slow and inevitable, Bama's loss was sudden and freaky. Just when it looked like Bama might take the West title, and therefore the national title, Saban asked for and got one more second. In the time it took Davis to run 109 yards the dream of winning 3 NCs in a row was crushed.
Yeah, I can see how a Bama fan might be able to sympathize with LSU fans in the misery of losing the chance at the title.
I don't do this often, but .

Yeah, Les should've been concerned with having only 30 yards on 5/13 passing in the SEC Championship against UGA. Our D, running game and Honey Badger's freak plays on D and special teams were masking major offensive issues in that one. Beating them 42-10, you'd think our offense was hitting on all cylinders. It wasn't. UGA almost knocked us out in the 1st quarter of that one up 10-0 and dropped a few TDs. LSU had 7 three-and-outs on offense in the first half. That's hard to do.

People don't seem to understand the benefits of run blocking in the first half of games - even if you're not gaining a bunch of yards. If your defense can keep the score close, opposing defense get REAL tired of defending the run by the 4th quarter. That's what happened in the first game vs Alabama. The problem was, Saban had his team ready for it in the BCSCG. LSU just could hold the ball long enough in the 1st half to hit Bama's D. The problem in the BCSCG wasn't LSU's offense, it was LSU's defense in the 1st half not giving the ball back to the run blocking offense enough. LSU allowed Bama too many 1st downs and therefore too much TOP in the 1st half to make an impact run blocking.
207 yards vs UGA, how many of those came in the last half of the 3rd and the 4th qtrs?
286 yards vs Arkansas, how many of those came in the 2nd half?

No, LSU had major problems on offense in that one. LSU had five yards on five carries in their first two series. One of those carries was a hand-off to Spencer Ware on 3rd and 10 on the second drive. On the first drive of the 4th quarter on 3rd and 4, we ran our fullback (Copeland) who had 1 carry for 0 yards the whole season. He had zero after the second carry too. The coaching was abysmal.
LSU had three offensive drives in the first quarter with 3 three-and-outs. They had five drives with 5 three-and-outs in the first half. You can't wear a D down if you don't get one first down in a half.
