re: "Knew what pitch was coming"
Posted by DrD on 4/28/25 at 11:12 am
All good on the theories but my take is Todd Walker (even though he is not a pitcher) using starter vs reliever mentality. Makes sense to me. I think we just found our 3rd starter. Now we need to find 1-2 more relievers. Shores would be good in that role assuming he can throw more than a fastball for a strike consistently. Others are still in the mix as well. Going to be interesting moving forward..... #2 after losing in run rule earlier in the week - amazing!

re: Softball Saturday Final LSU 5, Texas-Austin 6

We can bitch all we want and blame someone or something on every loss.
Tigers are right there IMHO. If our (soon to be) All-American 3rd baseman makes a good play on a ball right at her we don't give up tying 3 run homer.
If our All-American pitcher walks their best hitter w RISP we quite possibly get out of 7th inning jam w a win. Torino needs to know these things and come up w some "coaching" analytics every now and then. We get that figured out and make a play in the field w game on the line we'll be fine. Florida ain't ready. They may be good but Tigers are tested and just need to play their game - and the percentages. Can't wait for the Gators!

re: Grizzly Bear Jones
Posted by DrD on 4/22/25 at 11:23 am
Jones can hit for average - and should. When he's getting on base w singles and doubles the Tigers are legit every inning and difficult to beat. He can lay off the high heat and curve ball b.s. out of the zone if he tries to NOT hit a home run. Good home run hitters are patient and selective EVERY at bat. He'll be o.k. once he figures that out. Seen enough of the "swing and miss Jones" over the years. He needs to turn the corner NOW. IMHO Hope he does.

re: Softball Friday; FINAL SCORE!! LSU 6, Texas-Austin 1

Clopton is pitching an AWESOME game. Ump is finally starting to give her some of those borderline change up and fastball corners. Yesterday's loss was the most frustrating loss of the season. Out hit the other team and out played them until last 2 innings. Outscored 7-0 in last 2 innings. I've not seen many (if any) walk-off GRAND SLAMS. Ladies look focused today.
I like our chances...... Geaux Lady Tigers! Time for a margarita....

Lady Tigers Softball - mid-term report card
Posted by DrD on 4/16/25 at 10:38 am
For those that watch the Lady Tigers play - please read on. For those that don't - well you are missing out on what could be an historic season.
The pieces are in place but there is still progress to be made b/f final exams. I hear the fire Beth stew brewing thoughts yet again - like clockwork when SEC regular season play is about half-way done. To be honest I'm as frustrated as anyone when it comes to our Lady Tigers "agony of defeat" in post season play. They've lost about every way imaginable. However, I'm enjoying this season mainly b/c they are legit. They play great defense, have excellent contact hitters throughout the lineup, and above average/not yet great pitching. Each game something strange seems to happen: good and bad. Throw in 3-4 potential All-Americans in 2025 and if they get hot late this season we are all in for a treat. Mid-season report card: B+
Fire away.....

LSU Men Basketball Questionnaire: Non-competitive ok for future NCAA title?
Posted by DrD on 3/24/25 at 2:30 pm
I say emphatically NO! Of course, I would love to see LSU win an NCAA title in Men's Basketball b/f I die but I also enjoy competitive games. Fact is LSU Men's basketball is simply NOT fun to watch these days. I haven't watched an entire SEC game in a few years but that's on me. Let's get a coach that can WIN immediately and build towards a national championship.
WE should be in NCAA basketball tournament every year. 64 teams! Jeez.... Declining NIT bid was embarrassing. That tells me the LSU Men's basketball program is non-competitive and complacent. Play the frickin' game! Looking forward to brighter days on the hardwood. Wade would have been the PERFECT hire but we still have Woodward. He's obviously too proud to bring someone back he fired. I get it. Yet he will keep a sub-mediocre coach on board b/c he hired him. Unbelievable....

Posted by DrD on 3/23/25 at 6:05 pm
+1. Texas is very GOOD. They took advantage of their scoring opportunities today and they deserved to win. Tigers will be fine. Lineup is solid offensively and defensively. Pitchers need to throw strikes! We have 4 guys that are dealing right now on the mound. Need to find 4 more.....

The Lady Tigers are a complete team. I enjoy watching their games. The SEC will be a very tough road but they now have the pitching, hitting, and defense to compete against the best in the country. They generally start off very, very well but this 2025 version just looks and feels different. We'll see. Geaux Lady Tigers! They look legit.

Posted by DrD on 3/14/25 at 8:54 pm
I just put game on silent when I get tired of both Lyn and Ben. They can be annoying for sure. They do like to talk. Guess that’s why they are commentators. Somebody has to do it. The silent treatment works very well.

The frickin' inmates need to run this asylum! That's how it should be in this case b/c no one has a clue. Wade would be our next Dale Brown..... Wait - he actually was. He would be the next Will Wade. WW2

re: Keeping MM is simply a financial decision
Posted by DrD on 3/13/25 at 4:54 pm
Half-time adjustments would be my main worry. The good/great coaches make half-time adjustments so they can be competitive in last 6 minutes. Will Wade preached that. Apparently MM does not.

re: McMahon has to go…..literally no offense being run.
Posted by DrD on 3/12/25 at 7:15 pm
I disagree 100% about McMahon is staying for another season. The revenue LSU is losing b/c they can't/won't put a competitive product on the court should mean more to an administration than just being plain hard-headed w an awful hiring. It happens. We all make mistakes and this is clearly one of those. You can blame whoever you want on this hot mess but it starts w AD and head coach. Bring Will Wade back and all will be forgiven. Do it now!!!! Please. :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird:
re: NDSU apparently did not know rule about use of green bag at 1st base
Posted by DrD on 3/5/25 at 3:21 pm
I guess this same logic holds true if hit to infield? Say the runner last night decided to continue on to 2nd base and was safe. If LSU challenged would they have won and had runner declared out b/c he never touched "white" bag? I say let the NDSU Bison enjoy the green bag for this series. It's part of their school colors! LOL
We need to play them in football. They are AWESOME and will plan anyone ..... anywhere. My brother lives there. Nice town.

NDSU apparently did not know rule about use of green bag at 1st base
Posted by DrD on 3/5/25 at 7:40 am
Of course neither did I. Apparently you can use green bag on way to 1st base but after you cross the bag it no longer can be used as a base - you have to use the white 1st base bag. NDSU player didn't know that on his way back to 1st base after crossing bag. The coaches even challenged the call so they didn't know the rule either. Learned something new....
Also there was another play where w bases loaded Josh Pearson hit an easy fly ball to RCF that looked like a guaranteed SAC fly. The outfielder dropped the ball but was able to get force at 2nd base. Wasn't sure if Pearson got credit for SAC fly (0-0) or if play was scored as an 0-1 as far as batting average. Box score showed he was 0-3 w RBI. I would have scored it a SAC fly and not have it considered as an official at bat instead of a force out at 2nd base and 0-1 officially. Wasn't his fault the outfielder dropped it. He did his job. I guess that's baseball...
Great comeback by our Tigers! NDSU played well.

re: Does anyone think 2025 has potential to be a National Championship year?
Posted by DrD on 2/21/25 at 10:11 am
Tigers beat Clemson (both teams will probably be ranked in top10 per-season) we should immediately bolt into top 4-5 nationally. That would be a great trend setter and start to open up season. Potential? YES! Let it happen. Geaux Tigers!

re: As we’ve said many times…this team has the talent to compete most nights…
Posted by DrD on 2/9/25 at 4:14 pm
Name of the game in basketball is putting the ball in the hoop! Free throws, etc. Every top 20 team in America can shoot. Another glaring issues most nights is turnovers. Tigers are competitive b/c they are athletic . They just can’t shoot and they make bad decisions. Recipe for failure. Get better players!!!!!
