I miss it already.
I don't care what anybody says, the BCS did wonders for college football.

The BCS is dead...and soon so will the only compelling regular season in college football. All these morons that want to NFL-ize or NBA-ize college football are just about to kill it.
College football's postseason is the least compelling. I'm fine with enhancing the postseason at the expense of the regular season.

You playoff expansionistas realize one of the greatest games in the 100+ years of college football - the 2013 "Got A Sec, Nick" Iron Bowl - would have meant nothing under an 8 team format.
That's not true. It would always at the very least impact seeding, and it has the potential to decide if one team or the other makes the playoff as well. Moreover, it decided who got to play for the conference championship, and being conference champs will ostensibly be weighed into the selection process, especially if decided by a conf championship game.

In fact, you are pushing the sport to a situation where a coach of a team in the top 3 will pull starters after a quarter or so to avoid injuries. Can you imagine the secondguessing that will go on if say, a Nick Saban plays AJ all game in the IB and he gets his knee wrecked in the 4th quarter? Or if Gus plays Nick Marshall and Robinson at LT in the SECCG and they get hurt?
Lost me here

It amazes me how gullible people and fans are. This bitching about the BCS picked up steam when Boise State was going undefeated playing nobody. Of course, the bitching was mainly national media types that don't particularly like college football. And UF's sodomizing of the Buckeyes after the BCS didn't hand the big media types their dream scenario of a Mich/OSU rematch helped amp up the clamor. And, of, course, 2011 happened. But, at the root of all this BCS-bashing is the "everyone gets a trophy" types that were upset because the big boys wouldn't let BSU play at the adult table.
The BCS was great.

I agree, but I'd rather see the national champion decided by more than one game. For example, I'd love to see LSU vs Stanford/Oregon and Bama vs Ok St in 2011. It would've silenced so much grumbling and made for some awesome games.

I'm playing committee:
Florida State is in. 13-0 and winners of a major conference. They are also the #1 seed.
Auburn is in. 12-1 and winners of the top conference in football. They are the undeniable #2 seed.
Here's where it gets tricky. You have:
Alabama - 11-1 and two time defending champion. Only loss is to Auburn, but did not win their division
Michigan State - 12-1 and winners of the Big Ten. Sort of unheralded but a good finish. Only loss early in season to an 8-win Notre Dame team.
Baylor - 11-1 and outright Big 12 champions, but got embarrassed by Oklahoma State.
Stanford - 11-2 and Pac 12 champions, but two losses.
Ohio State - 12-1 and losers of their conference championship game to Michigan State.
Right off the bat, I throw Ohio State out. The only way you can consider Ohio State is if Michigan State is a consensus #1 or #2.
Stanford passes the eye test, but two losses, including one to Utah is too much to overcome.
Two spots to Alabama, Michigan State and Baylor.
Baylor and Michigan State are their conference champions and Alabama did not win their division, BUT
Baylor was embarrassed by the best team they played while Alabama's loss came o the consensus #2.
I kick Baylor out, but seed Michigan State third and Alabama fourth, to reward Michigan State's championship season and to avoid an SEC-SEC first round matchup. If Oklahoma State would have beaten Oklahoma or Stanford was a one loss team, I think Bama may have been voted out.
Its going to be hell-a-tough to get two SEC teams in this 4-team playoff. This year it would have worked out, but barely.

Here's my idea: Dissolve conferences. All teams play eight exhibition games for seeding. Final 7 weeks of season is a 128-team playoff. Bang.

Real nice analysis
So you're telling me we'd see:
#1 FSU vs #4 Bama
And
#2 Auburn vs #3 Sparty
Um, yes please.
I also agree with what you said about the difficulty of getting 2 SEC schools into the playoff

Yeah, Arkie makes the playoffs with an 8-4 record.

Should take power conferences, and break them into 8, 8 team conferences (one or two might have 9). Play a regular season schedule of 7 conference games, and 4 non conference, which must consist of one of the remaining 56 teams. At the end of the season, the 8 conference champions go to a playoff.

Not sure, Cocko - I haven't read that

yeah like how the Celtics-Lakers, Red Sox-Yankees and Barcelona-Real Madrid have no appeal since the entire season's post season usually doesn't depend on it.
College Football was being hurt by the BCS as it resulted in conference split ups and ending established rivalries (which I hope we can reestablish in the new world order.

It is going to be a totally subjective cluster. This season's hypothetical Final 4 includes Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Michigan State, Stanford, Baylor. Beginning right now, it'll never be any easier than that.
You're right ... and it is not going to be a good thing.

The 03 season had me watching games I otherwise would have never watched as SOS bounced around and thus rank within the BCS.
With the emphasis on human polls (and thus preseason polls) and "improvements", I have personally had less interest over the years. With a playoff and the subsequent expansions, my interest and contributions will likely diminish or not even exist.
I'm sure some will like the playoffs. But, I fully expect it to be a dagger in the only football I really enjoy.

Are you insinuating that Arkansas would have made the final four teams this year?

I guess we should all prepare for the inevitable 7-5 Razorbacks in the 'ship.
We could be YEARS away from having an Arkansas team that wins 7 games, though.
