AT this point who knows what Texas is thinking? I mean, it is just a mess in Austin, I won't be surprised at any desperate action from that wounded animal.

I actually think they keep Mack for at least one more year. Unless they could get a Saban or Meyer which they probably won't.

Most schools would love to have Gus, IMO. We are going to have to give him a raise if we want to keep him. The thing about Auburn is, we always pay our coaches good money. Hell, we over-payed greatly for Coach Chiz and are paying Barbee something like $2 mill. a year for that shite we call basketball. Gus has to be a hot name for open coaching jobs.... and it will remain that way.

They could outbid Bama too. But they won't.
They already know CNS isn't leaving Bama for another college gig.

They're not going to be willing to pay Malzahn more than Auburn is after being a head coach at a major program for one year.
Don't sell Gus' experience short. I'm sure his experience on SEC staffs count for something plus look at what he has done in his 1st season at Auburn as the man!
Also look at Gus' age. He's a young-un compared to CNS and I'm sure Gus' would love more money. Yeah 3-4 million is not a shabby income but if Texas wants Gus, I'm sure they will do everything they can to make it happen. The only hold back would be...just how greedy is Gus?
Also Gus could own that conference and not have to worry about competing with Bama, LSU and Georgia.
So if Gus is greedy, the mega millions + the easier path to winning a conference and a shot in the playoffs is greater at Texas.

Its a part of the curse of having a good coach; he is coveted by other teams.
You are going to see Malzahn to X or Y? articles for as long as he is successful, don't take it too seriously.
Edit: Corrected names, Total Brainfart from 2010, oops.

Just do something smart this time when you re-negotiate Mazahn's contract at the end of the year, and win or lose in the IB, you know that's going to happen.
Don't stick a big arse buyout in there. Teams that want your coach will pay it, and you're stuck with paying THEM if they don't have more than one good year.
I wouldn't be surprised if you're still paying Bowden, much less Tubs and the Chiz. Paying Shula as much as we did to get him to leave annoyed the hell out of me.
We have no buyout for Saban, which means all we have to do is outbid someone if it's a money issue, and while it's possible, I don't see another program committed to the level that would take. Not having that buyout gives you more to bid with if you need to.
If your coach wants to leave...they'll leave.

.........on the other hand, some gump could have written this. It is IB week. Those bastards will stoop to no end when they feel threatened.

Most people I know don't believe it, but its entirely true that Saban doesn't have a buyout, after taking a paycut to leave Miami no less.
He isn't going anywhere.

Agree. I hope Auburn will get Gus to about 3 or low 3s in an extension laden w/ heavy incentives, barring a huge suitor willing to up the bidding.

I don't think Saban has ever had a buyout clause in any contract he has worked under.
Posted on 11/25/13 at 10:56 am to MagicCityBlazer
Again, Texas beleives they have to make a big splash with this hire. That is why most of their fans think it is Saban or bust if the go the thru the College ranks. Keep in mind if Sumlin leaves, there will be a lot of pressure on them to win the Press Conference of new hire announcements.

Back to Malzahn, the rumor is that Malzahn is already picked and that Mack has agreed to step down while also expressing his support for Malzahn. Supposedly Saban is a smoke screen. I talked to one of my friends just 5 minutes ago about the Saban as smoke screen while we set things up with Malzahn and he said yes, he'd been hearing the same thing.
So it has been widely reported that Mack said no to stepping down for saban, but Mack "gives his blessing" for Gus? Texas was using saban to get to Gus? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure who is behind this article.

Another thing to consider. Most coaches have big egos, and love to compete. The SEC West is one if the best divisions in all of sports. Leaving, no matter to what school, would be a step down in competition. UTx, USC, etc can't offer that. Who wants to play @ Kansas, Texas Tech, Baylor, etc every week?

Texas can't out spend Auburn.
No coach is allowed to leave AU for another
job anyway.
Fired or retired.
But
HE GONE!

If so then Chad Morris to Auburn.

Through many years of data, playing a harder schedule produces better results. See the lastest SEC run.
