Why didn't we have a safety posted at the 5 to "prevent" a long TD pass? It's easier to break up a pass moving forward.

Really, do you think he is going to read this dribble, much less respond to it?

I'm all for a little Grantham bashing, but he was trying to stop 4th and 18, not a Hail Mary. We had 2 guys in position to make the play. They just didn't knock it down.
Now, we shouldn't need to score 45 every game to win. That's on Grantham.

I actually think this is all on Grantham. It should be drilled into your DB's that the first thing you should do on 4th down is NOT intercept the ball, you lose yardge, risk fumble on return... It's simple risk vs. reward.

I think so. This defense is now on pace to be the worst defense that UGA has ever fielded.

This. The failure on that play is not on Grantham; it's on the players for not just slapping the ball down instead up trying to intercept it. I repeat myself but: we took a timeout before the play and Grantham huddled the defense on the sideline. Question: did Grantham reinforce to the secondary to knock the ball down and not try to INT? If he did, then the failure is absolutely on the players. If he did not, then part of the blame goes to lack of coaching a fine point of the game at a critical moment.

Even if you put someone at the 5 to stop a potential TD, they would ACTUALLY have to tackle an Auburn player annnnd a FG still would've won it and one at the 5 would've been a chip shot 23yarder or so.

IMO this is Granthams fault. There can only be 3 scenarios:
1. His players listen to him, swat the ball, and win the game.
2. His players don't respect him (or aren't disciplined) enough to listen to him, and try to intercept the ball.
3. He didn't even bother to tell them to swat the ball.
2 and 3 all scream horrible coach.

I put it on Grantham that we gave up 37 to begin with. Yet another case of his defense giving up 300+ yards on the ground.

The defense played it like they should have. A prevent defense on 4th down is a good call. This was about the execution, which was pathetic. That's probably a mix of bad coaching and inexperience. I don't think our safeties have had a lot of experience purposefully batting balls down to win the game. That's still not much of an excuse, but it could be one. It was mostly just a lucky play that the ball got tipped exactly where it needed to be for the score.

Because you were only up by 1, there were 30 seconds left, and the clock stops after a 1st down in college football.

I know you'd hate to fit this into my "MO" but this is what is so damn crazy. Say what you want about Bobo but I think we can all agree he's pulling a helluva lot more weight than CTG and he's paid peanuts in comparison

They maybe bad this year, but think about how Damn Good they will be... This D has some great athletes on it...I hate that they have NOT shown much improvement.

I slammed Mike for years regardless of the fact that he is from my hometown.

If I'm being honest with myself there are others offensive coordinators out there that are better, but it's hard to say that he isn't doing his part when we average as many points as we have been in the past couple of years.

Well put. Believe me, I am no Bobo apologist. I think he's average. I am too busy being disgusted with out defense and STs to get mad at him. I think our biggest flaw on offense has been the same thing since richt got here.
A fat, lazy, useless OL that is more concerned with stuffing their faces at ECV than blocking worth a damn

Well Theus was quoted as saying:
quote:
We came out a little sluggish the first half, I think they kind of caught us by surprise. They came out with a lot of energy and they were playing really hard
Are you fricking kidding me? Going against a top 10 Auburn team in their stadium and not only do you come out "sluggish" you're "surprised" that they come out with a lot of energy. Jesus.

My only statement about this statement is that apparently the team doesn't understand or isn't being taught the importance of the 6 p's of life. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance.

Nobody is talking about the receiver that was wide open in the middle of the field. If Marshall had made a good read, he would have hit that receiver for a first down. The problem is the scheme. LSU had receivers open in the middle of the field all game, especially on the long 3rd down conversion...where we played a PREVENT defense. The scheme is wrong.
