What if we fire Dan and HUD tells us no thanks?
I know Engie will say no way possible, but who is plan B???

We don't fire Dan unless we have a guarantee from Hud. Seems pretty simple.

Good god. They would not do it unless they had HUD signed already.

Why would Mullen bolting for UCONN hurt us in ANY way? That's the best possible scenario for all involved. We don't have to fire a successful coach -- and we get the coach we really want anyway.
We've got a situation teed up for a coach to have success. For every coach that's scared away because "we fired Mullen too soon", there will be 2 that say "holy shite, I can win 8+ there for the next 2 years and jump to a nationally elite job" IF it came to that.
Bottom line is, we aren't getting rid of Mullen unless we've got something postdated on paper from Hudspeth...
And a possibility for plan B is Kyle Whittingham. Pretty well-known that he's had interest in our job. Had an MSU grad as his Director of Football Operations for awhile at Utah who has relayed his interest back before...

Everyone will know whats up by the time the egg bowl comes around. If it is not a hard sellout then change would be probable. Football is the cash cow for an athletic dept. There are big bills to pay due to titleX, expansion, and non revenue sports. Coaching changes are not made over wins and losses but whether or not fan support is falling and financial reasons.
People who think big donors are making all the decisions are fricking idiot conspiracy freaks, even if you donate millions a year it does not make up for the lost revenue if fan apathy sets in. You can only count on the visitors to buy so many tickets.Watch the stands and next years season ticket sales and you will find your answer

Why would you think "big donors" aren't ALSO making decisions based on ticket sales and what they see is in the long-term best interest of the program? Think they want to see "fan apathy" set in and the atmosphere die? Think they like seeing Davis Wade filled with red and blue like it probably will be on Thanksgiving? Hell, if they are donating millions, wouldn't it stand to reason that they probably want to win MORE than the rest of us?
I just don't see how you can even remotely attempt to disconnect the two things. The only way that would even make sense would be IF the big money people were all going to bat for keeping Mullen right now. They aren't.

Still trolling the MSU board, I see...

Someone linked the Bulldog Club BOD and the Foundation BOD and a person that was on both was at an engagement party I had to attend last weekend. I probed and gave him every opportunity in the world to bad mouth Mullen and all he kept saying was he didn't like the negatives coming from 2 other mutual friends in the room. He is frustrated but nowhere near cutting this thing loose (Mullen). They have to figure out how to pay for the expansion, though. I am guessing it's 50/50 right now. This is going to be a big year for re-seating. We'll see.

I've heard of several of them being pretty neutral right now -- just haven't heard of a single staunch Mullen supporter in that group yet.
The question is -- will any of them step up and go to bat for Mullen -- because if one of the 3-4 "leaders" in the group doesn't, I feel like the writing is mostly on the wall right now. Have heard a good bit more in recent days that agrees with that sentiment...
Isn't 50/50 a pretty significant change from your thoughts on this last week?

I just thought you were in the faction of saying "no chance that it happens". If I'm wrong about that, my apologies...

I actually trust that you are more in the know than the rest of the people on here. What are the real chances that mullin is gone after this year?

My gut wants to tell me that he is at his ceiling (if you go back 3 or 4 years, you will see I was never a Mullen rah, rah kind of guy) but I seriously think those that know and have to look at the whole deal, he gets this year and has to do something with the schedule next year.

quote:Hey Drew. How is the bride and how is work? But, I really don't know more than most of the folks on here. We are at such a pivotal point with the expansion and fund raising a mistake could be catastrophic but we State fans have been saying "wait until next year" for so long, I think it will work out. Fewer than 7 next year won't hunt.
