What Happens to Jonathan Wallace?

Is Gus hoping to push Jonathan Wallace out the door?
For all intents and purposes, Nick Marshall will be good to go next week and whatever experience Johnson gained came against a team that lost to Samford by 60+ points. I don't see the purpose of burning Jonathan's redshirt to have him come in for mop-up duty for our remaining cupcake.
QB wise we have 2014 & 2015 commits lined up but as past years have shown us that could change in the blink of an eye. Nevertheless, Wallace appears to be the odd man out. He was Loefflers last minuet pick but no one can say he hasn't done everything that's been asked of him. I feel bad that this is the end result of one of the few players that continued to fight thru the nightmare that was 2012.
Also, with our recent struggles in signing guys in our own backyard, I feel like the end result of this could impact our recruitment in the area.

He plays out like Neil Caudle. Holding for kicks, playing backup, doing what he can to help the team. But he shouldn't start again.

Who cares. This isn't a daycare. Produce or GTFO.

Are you serious? The handling of a 'last-minute token scholarship to a "character recruit"' player is going to impact our recruiting?
Wallace is where he needs to be and where he was recruited to be. He knew what he was getting himself into by coming to Auburn. He knew his role was going to be as the token 4-5 year backup who never seriously challenges anyone for a starting job but tries hard and sets a good example. That is what he signed up for.

I understand that; doesn't mean I have to like it

Why should last year's epically bad QB situation change anything about Wallace's future? The reality is that he never sees the field last season under normal circumstances and all of this becomes moot. He's not being "screwed"...this is what happens when a mid-major QB signs up to play for an SEC school looking to compete for championships.
In the future he will get to choose whether he wants to play, at which point he will be granted a release to transfer to a more talent-appropriate school, or he can choose to finish his schooling at Auburn.

From what I remember, Wallace is a very smart kid. He knew what he was getting into. Like others have said, he'll keep doing what is asked of him and setting a good example. He'll end up with a degree and probably be successful in life.

This is normal for football. It is apparent Undecided hasn't been exposed to this and is overreacting.

It is what it is. Some people are career backups

His other offer was from UCF...he may not have cracked the rotation there....but at least he started 4 games for us...as a Frosh...he wouldn't have done that at UCF...

Wallace is taking it better than undecided.

I'm fine with Wallace being the backup but from all intents and purposes, Gus is preparing JJ (really don't like calling him this) to be the back-up.
Lets be honest, Tucker Tuberville could have won by 60 today. I dont see any reason why Wallace coudnt have started. I'll just have to put my trust in Gus and how he manages the QB's

I LOVE Jonathon Wallace, but agree with others that he knew he what he was signing up for. He was a thee star prospect who had committed to UCF and would have probably gotten significant playing time or even the starting job had he followed through on that. Some may remember video interviews of him, Moseley, and Frazier that were posted before the 2012 starter had been named; his attitude and demeanor in that interview would have come close to winning the job for me. The reality (not necessarily bad) is that he has probably already started more games than he ever expected to at Auburn.

I admit that Wallace was one of the few players I actually liked last year and I think with the right coach and development he would have been a solid QB. Smart kid with great work ethic could have surprised some people.

I think that an extremely shortsighted view on things. It's apparent that Marshall will be running a lot. With the knee injury he already has and running even more going forward, he could easily get hurt again. We need a backup and Johnson is better than Wallace.
I don't think we have the luxury of redshirting certain positions to build depth for the future. We need depth now.

Think he would have done well at UCF or a similar Big East/American or CUSA type school

Because Malzahn is in the business of winning games. With the starting QB injured; the backup needs to take snaps where he can get them in case he is needed down the line. When that backup is a true freshman with 0 career snaps; it makes even more logical sense to start that player.
This isn't a complex scenario.

I was under the assumption that Wallace was the backup
